The collapse of Al Jazeera Balkans wasn’t an accident — Qatar asked AJB’s director Tarik Đođić to step down in order to save the channel. He refused. The result? Doha decided to shut down the entire program.

💥 It all started with the scandal around “Memija’s contracts.” AJB’s director Tarik Đođić had issued fake certificates to a company owned by the family of Gordan Memija, the godfather of Bosnian Foreign Minister Elmedin Konaković. This caused the failure of the planned EU – Western Balkans summit organized by Memija’s company.

🚨 After the scandal broke on November 28, Qatar’s embassy informed Doha about the damage to their company’s reputation. Al Jazeera headquarters immediately launched a financial audit. To save his friends, Konaković rushed to Doha on December 15, 2024, but did not disclose his meeting with Al Jazeera's director.

📉 The audit revealed widespread corruption: external production contracts with companies linked to Memija, whose wife Dalija Hasanbegović was a public face of AJB. BH Telecom was a key sponsor of AJB projects run by Edhem Fočo, while his wife Nađa Lutvikadić-Fočo managed the sponsorship deals.

⚖️ The scandal is now part of a wider investigation by the Bosnian Prosecutor’s Office, under the Black Tie operation linked to the Edin Gačanin Tito narco cartel. AJB employee Sead Preljević was arrested for helping transfer cartel money from the Netherlands to Bosnia. That money allegedly ended up with Gordan Memija, to buy police uniforms for the special forces (FUP) — as a “thank you” for protecting "Tito" during his 2016 visit to Bosnia.

💸 Investigators found proof that Memija “fixed” tax audit reports with corrupt officials, tied to suspicious invoices between his companies and Al Jazeera Balkans — including the production of the Alchemy of the Balkans series.

📉 Fočo and Đođić could have resigned and saved the channel — they refused. Al Jazeera Balkans was shut down.
