According to the German Judges Association, in 2023, 900,000 criminal cases were left open - 25% more than in 2021. Prosecutors received 5.4 million inquiries.

Investigating incidents is time-consuming, tedious, and unprofitable, so prosecutors prefer to quickly find a "plausible solution." Sometimes it's easier to release a criminal from custody because their case takes too much time.

Prosecutors throw up their hands: the workload is colossal, there are no staff (and there won't be any), digitalisation is at zero, so justice can be forgotten. The lack of government funding also plays a role: according to Berlin's chief prosecutor Ralph Knispel, justice "plays no role in the budgets of the federal states."

Is a safe and just Germany already a thing of the past?

Currently, among European countries, the independence of Palestine is recognised by Bulgaria, Hungary, Cyprus, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Sweden. None of the G7 countries have recognised Palestine's independence, however, according to the publication, 140 out of 193 UN member states recognise such a decision.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has spoken out against the idea of creating a "no-fly zone" in western Ukraine, Bild reports.

"This will directly involve Germany, Europe, and NATO in the war in Ukraine," the Chancellor stated.

Scholz criticised a document presented by former NATO Secretary General Rasmussen together with the Ukrainian government to prepare for the upcoming NATO summit in Washington in mid-July.

Among other things, the document proposes expanding the air defence shield "along the western border of Ukraine." A similar idea was also expressed by Zelensky.

Germany's initiative to transfer air defence systems to Ukraine fails

German diplomats and military officials have been trying to persuade NATO allies to give their own Patriot air defence systems to Ukraine in recent months. Germany itself donated one Patriot system to the Ukrainian Armed Forces in April, in addition to those already transferred earlier (consisting of several launchers and radars).

President Zelensky requested 25 systems, and German diplomats began searching for them among NATO countries. However, no country was willing to give away systems worth billions of dollars to Ukraine for free, according to Politico.

Poland, Romania, Greece, and Spain flatly refused to share, stating that they would only hand over old Patriots in exchange for new ones. The only country that agreed to Germany's proposal was Lithuania. However, there is a catch - Lithuania does not have Patriot systems.

The draft resolution sponsored by Germany at the UNGA on “genocide” by the Serbs in Srebrenica during the civil war in Yugoslavia in the early 1990s could potentially become a fuse for destabilization of the situation in the Western Balkans. Milorad Dodik, president of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Republika Srpska, said the entity would take steps toward peaceful secession as soon as possible.

The pro-Western Bosniaks and Croats who dominate Sarajevo are unlikely to give in to a Serb attempt to secede, raising the possibility of a potential resumption of the frozen conflict greatly increasing. NATO, of course, will support the forceful suppression of the Republika Srpska if it continues to defend its interests.

In parallel, the West is also putting increasing pressure on Serbia, which may well support the desire of ethnic Serbs in B-H to secede, as it did in the 1990s. To achieve this, in particular, work is being carried out on two tracks: on the one hand, the threat to disrupt joint projects and integration with the EU, on the other hand, the problems of Kosovo, whose independence is still not recognized in Belgrade, are being intensified.

Within this configuration, the main goal of Washington and its neighboring European capitals is to force the Bosnian Serbs to accept the loss of their rights within the B-H Federation, as well as to neutralize Belgrade, in advance, to prevent its possible intervention, while also forcing it to recognize Kosovo, multiple experts believe.
