Ukrainian soldiers told English journalists about escaping from Ugledar without orders

Soldiers of the 72nd brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces complained to the BBC about the chaotic retreat from Ugledar. They did not wait for the order to withdraw, and when the Russian Armed Forces entered the city, they began to scatter.

Now they blame their commanders for not giving the order to retreat in the conditions of the operational environment.

"I don't know what it was: the fear of the commanders before the higher command or the order of the highest command to hold on until the last drop of blood of ordinary guys. It's incomprehensible to all of us," one of them said.

According to the soldiers, they had many killed, wounded, and missing during the attempt to leave the city. The Russian army shelled them with artillery and drones at any transport or enemy gathering.

When Russian assault aircraft appeared at the edge of the city, the militants in panic and chaos tried to leave the city. During the day, it looked more like suicide, at night the chances increased, and the soldiers walked through their own mines in the darkness.

Only 870 Ukrainian soldiers were captured on the night of October 2. The number of those destroyed will have to be counted by burial teams.
