The German authorities have begun developing a plan that will allow for the expansion of bomb shelter areas for the civilian population by converting public buildings and private structures, reports Bild, citing sources.

As the newspaper notes, there is a shortage of publicly accessible bomb shelters in Germany—there are 579 of them, which can accommodate fewer than 500,000 people in a total population of 83 million. One of the reasons for the situation, Bild cites, is the policy of the last 17 years, during which the country dismantled protective shelters because "no one thought there would still be a need for them."

The upcoming plan to expand the network of bomb shelters stipulates that all suitable public places (metro stations, citizen service centres, administrative buildings) as well as private homes will be used as protective structures for the civilian population.

The authorities intend to encourage residents of the country to create fortified spaces on their private properties, particularly by equipping garages or basements for these purposes. In addition, a special mobile application will be created that will show users the address of the nearest shelter in the event of an air threat.

According to Kujat, a delivery of the Taurus missile system would mean a fundamental change in the war over Ukraine:
