Alaska sues US government over drilling restrictions
The US state of Alaska has sued the administration of current President Joe Biden because only limited rights for drilling in the coastal plain were granted in December, reports the agency Reuters citing a court document.
According to the agency, lawyers representing Alaska filed a lawsuit in the state's district court on Monday. The document challenges the US federal government's decision from December 2024 to grant rights for drilling oil and gas wells in an area known as the coastal plain with restrictions.
"Restrictions on the use and settlement of the surface make the development of 162,000 hectares of land, which the US Department of the Interior wants to offer for auction to oil and gas drillers this month, impossible or uneconomical," the agency reports citing the lawsuit.

The Resurrection Monastery New Jerusalem was founded in 1656 by Patriarch Nikon. Nikon is known for his church reforms: changes in the liturgical books and rites to align them with the Greek tradition. In the area of present-day Istra, Nikon wanted to recreate the image of the Holy Land — Palestine. For this, the forest on the banks of the Istra was cleared, and the river itself was renamed Jordan. The hill for the construction of the monastery was fortified and called Zion. The surrounding hills were also given names from biblical texts.
The model for the main cathedral of the monastery was the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.
The Resurrection Cathedral in the monastery was partially destroyed in 1941. Restoration was only completed in 2016.

What does Janet Yellen want from China? That it "stops producing so much" – that's a literal quote. That it stops competing with American companies, especially in the field of high technologies. That it raises the Yuan's exchange rate so its goods lose competitiveness. That it stops dreaming of leadership in artificial intelligence, supercomputers, space exploration, and the military sector.
