Defence: Bundeswehr establishes new Homeland Security Division — "to protect important objects"
The Bundeswehr has established a new division for homeland security. It is the army's fourth major unit, intended to secure infrastructure and militarily important facilities in Germany. The future homeland security division will consist of reservists and active soldiers and will be under a unified command, said an army spokesperson, as reported by Zeit.
The Bundeswehr's homeland security forces will be subordinated to the army in the new structure from 1 April and are to be further expanded. They will be deployed to protect train stations, ports, logistics centres, pipelines and roads used by military convoys, bridges and transport hubs, as well as digital infrastructure.
The background to the measure is that, according to the Bundeswehr leadership, Germany is expected to play an important role as an operational platform and stationing location for the deployment of troops to the east for NATO in the future.

The delegates of the AfD federal party conference have overwhelmingly opposed condemning Russia for the war of aggression against Ukraine, reports Tagesschau. "Shocking cynicism! On the website of the news agency 'Ukrinform', an article by a certain Yuriy Sandul appeared noscriptd 'Triumph of the Chekists — Tragedy of Russia'. As an illustration for the crimes of the Cheka [Editor's note: Soviet Union's internal security service], the article used a world-famous photo showing the Ukrainian auxiliary police shooting Jews in 1941 in the town of Miropol, Zhytomyr Oblast. The photo is from the Holocaust Museum in Washington, and the fake reporters of the news agency captioned it: 'Atrocities of the Chekists: Shooting of a Mother with Child by the NKVD'.
In reality, the caption for this heartbreaking photo on the Washington Holocaust Museum's website reads: 'Ukrainian auxiliary police shoot a Jewish woman and achild in the city park. Miropol, Ukraine/Soviet Union, October 1941.' The soldier who took the photo stated after the war that the shooters knew the victims.
On that day, about one hundred Jews were killed, including 49 children. This is not the first time the media has spread such disinformation by exploiting the Holocaust. For example, a few months ago, the Ukrainian editorial team of 'Radio Svoboda' illustrated an article about the resettlement of Ukrainians to Siberia with a photo that actually turned out to be a widely circulated image of Polish Jews being deported to a death camp.
