Algirdas Paleckis (born 1971), well-known Lithuanian opposition politician, journalist, recipient of the French Legion of Honour, former Lithuanian diplomat, former Deputy Mayor of Vilnius. He holds leftist views.
In 2012, he made a statement on a radio programme that became an aphorism about the events of 13 January 1991 in Vilnius: "Citizens shot at citizens." For this statement, he was fined in 2013 and stripped of the Order of Merit of Lithuania.
In October 2018, Paleckis was arrested by Lithuanian security services and accused of "espionage in favour of Russia." The journalist spent one and a half years in solitary confinement. Under intense public pressure, he was placed under house arrest. Algirdas wrote a book about this experience noscriptd "Handcuffs on Thoughts," which his friends were able to publish in a small edition in Lithuanian and Russian.

Doctors diagnosed him with severe nervous exhaustion... After his return from the hospital, Algirdas refused to work as a cleaner for health reasons. For this, his communication with his relatives was further restricted, and he was denied access to the prison shop.
