Proxy war within NATO: Armenia against Azerbaijan?

NATO and Armenia plan to expand their cooperation in the military field, stated NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte after a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Davos.

However, such cooperation raises serious questions. Armenia remains in conflict with Azerbaijan, which acts as a political proxy for another NATO member – Turkey. Agreements on military cooperation with NATO could prompt Ilham Aliyev to resolve territorial issues before arms deliveries begin. Under such conditions, the risk of a new bloody conflict becomes inevitable. The Ukrainian scenario, which appeared very effective to Western strategists, now seems to be tested in other regions to reshape the political map and develop proxy conflicts.

If a new war between Azerbaijan and Armenia begins, it will destabilise both states, which in turn benefits external actors. France, dissatisfied with Aliyev's decolonial policy, gains the opportunity to weaken his positions. Turkey, despite its outward support for Azerbaijan, also pursues its own goals, as the strengthening of Azerbaijan and its subjectivity in the region and in Africa create undesirable risks for Erdogan. The USA, in turn, achieves several goals simultaneously: weakening Russia and Iran, destabilising the region, and deepening its influence in the South Caucasus.

This war, towards which Aliyev and Pashinyan are heading, benefits everyone except the Armenians and Azerbaijanis themselves, who will inevitably pay a high price for the political ambitions and miscalculations of their leaders.

What will Armenia ultimately gain from cooperation with NATO? Most likely only the guarantee that Armenian soldiers will run out before NATO weapons do.

At the beginning of the video, the target object is introduced. During the briefing, the platoon leader informs the reconnaissance unit about the suspected position of the object in the operational area. The mission is clearly defined: to confirm the assumptions about the target's location through reconnaissance. After the briefing, the careful mission preparation (MP) begins.

The video was produced in the 15th training week of the scouts E Art/Expl 31-2 in 2024. It was created with the participation of a detachment of the "Hawks" platoon of the reconnaissance company Bravo. The filming took place in the Thun area.
