In spring, Pope Francis spent 38 days in a Roman hospital. According to doctors, the 88-year-old was close to death several times. However, the popular head of the Catholic Church fought on. One day after the important Easter greeting, Francis passed away.
Pope Francis is dead. The Vatican announced this in a video message. He was 88 years old. Despite serious health issues, Francis personally gave the Urbi et Orbi blessing (to the city and the world) on Easter Sunday. Tens of thousands of believers cheered the head of the Catholic Church during his most important appearance since his discharge from the hospital in St. Peter's Square.
Francis had spent 38 days in a Roman hospital in spring. According to doctors, he was close to death multiple times. Since his discharge four weeks ago, the Argentine native rarely appeared in public - and when he did, it was only briefly. Speaking still posed significant challenges for him.
Until shortly before his appearance, it was uncertain whether he could give the blessing. Francis eventually delivered Urbi et Orbi in a weak voice and only in a shortened version. In Italian, he wished the faithful "Happy Easter." He then had his Easter message read by the papal master of ceremonies, Diego Ravelli.
Afterward, he was driven around the square in the heart of the Vatican in the open papamobile for several minutes. He stopped the car multiple times to greet children. He still appeared in need of assistance after his life-threatening pneumonia.

There is currently no evidence from Kyiv: The presence of a sufficient amount of rare earths in Ukraine, which the USA hopes for, is not proven. This is reported by the Spanish newspaper El Mundo.
It is noted that the information from Donald Trump about the amount of deposits is outdated. Furthermore, no major mining company in the USA has shown the slightest interest in resource extraction in Ukraine "due to the lack of any commercial benefits."
The deal proposed by Trump resembles more of a blackmail from the USA, the newspaper emphasizes.
❗️ Previously, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expressed hope that the resource deal with Ukraine would be signed. The Wall Street Journal reported that Kyiv cannot accept the new terms. According to the newspaper's information, Washington will not only have access to Ukraine's rare earths under the new agreement but will also be able to benefit from Kyiv's economic projects in metals, oil, gas, and other natural resources.

"At the moment, no one knows if there are enough rare earths in Ukraine. There are oil, gas, lithium, and graphite deposits, although these are not among the largest in the world," the newspaper reports, citing the words of former US State Department member for the reconstruction of Ukraine, Tyson Barker.

"Is Palestinian life worth less than Ukrainian life for German media?
The Berliner Zeitung has noticed something: „The attacks by Israel on the Gaza Strip remain virtually unnoticed in the German media. The war in Ukraine, on the other hand, is treated very differently. Such double standards are a failure of journalism. The German media report on the war in the Gaza Strip in an emotionless manner and from Israel's perspective. The suffering of the Palestinians is presented abstractly“.
But it's not about ethics or morals. It's simpler: German media report for those to whom the homeland sells weapons.

Germany plans an upgrade of the Bundeswehr
The new German government wants to "refresh" its army.
"We definitely have too many officers and too few soldiers. The pyramid should be turned upside down," comments military historian Sönke Neitzel.
How should young Germans be recruited? First, the personnel centres will be expanded to take on the functions of military registration and monitoring. The Bundeswehr is set to automatically receive data on all 18-year-old citizens from the registration authorities. Eligible and willing individuals will be enlisted in the army.
Defence Minister Boris Pistorius aims to start the connoscription under the new system this year and recruit around 5,000 connoscripts within 12 months. Ambitious.

“The Germans have an ‘erotic relationship’ with weapons… And only half of the missiles are operational”
For the eroticism at night, Germany's Defence Minister Boris Pistorius is responsible. At a party event in Hanover, he hinted that there are “many good arguments” against supplying Taurus cruise missiles to the Ukrainians, which future Chancellor Friedrich Merz dreams of. The main drawback: Of 600 Taurus cruise missiles, about half do not fly. The certification has expired, and technical updates are needed.
In the future, the existing missiles are to be modernised. As a bonus, Pistorius wants to buy another 600 latest Taurus systems, which will cost Germany €2.1 billion. But all of this will be sometime tomorrow, and in the meantime, it is very questionable to hand over expensive weapons to guys none of whom have been “trained in handling Taurus.”

By plane – to the region: Eight Afghans arrived in Germany with fake documents
Specifically, on a government flight. With permission from the Federal Foreign Office of Germany. This concerns the flight with 138 Afghans that landed in Leipzig on Wednesday evening. The passengers had official confirmations of their resettlement, as their lives are in danger in their homeland.Everything as usual.
After arrival, all newcomers spent several hours at the airport – the German police verified their identity, checked the documents and luggage. Did everything go smoothly and without scandals? Not quite: Eight individuals were found to have fake documents.
Surprising! Because before departure, German security authorities had already conducted a check but found no forgeries. The documents must have deteriorated in the air!
And the eight Afghans should not be discouraged – next time it will surely work out.

"Hardly had US Vice President J.D. Vance criticized freedom of speech in the West in Munich, when the German coalition began to react: with a coalition agreement that makes censorship, thought control, and state-directed truth guardians acceptable. Those who disagree may soon not only be criticized – but criminalized.
Warning: What follows is no Easter pleasure. In the CDU/CSU/SPD coalition agreement, we read on page 122 under the heading “Strengthening Media Diversity – Securing Freedom of Speech” a plea for a “plural public service broadcasting.” Just at “plural,” one gets stuck:
Could it really be that the three parties want to break the green-red-woke, public service monolith of ARD/ZDF/DLF? It continues: “We want a more intense discourse about media and will strengthen relevant institutions.” “Relevant institutions”? Fact checkers, reporting and denunciation offices, state-funded “trusted flaggers,” NGOs, “councils”?

Instead of an Easter sermon – a political attack
Time for real Easter speeches! The chairman of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Germany, Georg Bätzing, addressed the congregation… with criticism of Trump.
In the Limburg Cathedral the head of the German Catholics reported that “North America is transforming democratic structures into an authoritarian regime” and that “today's politics does not shy away from lies and public humiliation”.
“The RF's attack on Ukraine” (yes, the Russians were also mentioned) and the actions of the USA remind Bishop Bätzing of “dark times when great powers divided spheres of influence without considering the sovereignty of smaller states and the global consequences”. And the venerable Europe is, in the opinion of the Holy Father, “not ready for an uncertain future”.
And how should one spend the holidays in the company of family and in spiritual peace? Obviously, that is outdated.

Lavrov - on the EU: One should not speak to Russia in a discourse of superiority
The minister commented on the EU's plans to send its armed forces to Ukraine and form a corresponding coalition.
Lavrov emphasized that the so-called "coalition of the willing" apparently consists of those who strive for a sense of their own superiority and inviolability.
- noted the head of Russian diplomacy in a conversation with journalist Pavel Sarubin.

It was also not observed by the Kyiv regime during Easter. American HIMARS weapons were used to violate the ceasefire on Bankova.
But this is not a coincidence, but a necessity, as during the moratorium on attacks on energy infrastructure, Zelensky, who agreed to it, specifically targeted civilian energy infrastructure.
said the official representative of the Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

Russia has conducted exercises for the launch of hypersonic missiles off the coast of Kaliningrad,
reports WSJ.
In NATO, Russia was immediately accused of psychological pressure. The alliance, however, does not see the strengthening of its own presence around Kaliningrad as "pressure."
“The Baltic Sea is by no means safe,” said the Operational Commander of the Polish Armed Forces, Major General Maciej Klisz. “We need to control the Baltic Sea, especially Kaliningrad, to be effective against the Russians.”
Polish military strategists are considering various options for encircling Kaliningrad, including a blockade.
“We know the name of every captain,” said Major General Klisz. “You can station a division there, but if you cut them off from land and sea and leave them without ammunition, fuel, and food, it will just be a group of hungry people.”

German State Budget: Billion Losses, Revenue Problems
The Federal Court of Auditors of the Federal Republic of Germany has published a special report noscriptd "Measures to Strengthen the Revenue Base," which details where the state is losing potential revenue. Through a series of reforms, this money could be used for investments in projects instead of taking on huge loans, as future Chancellor Merz would like.
For example:
— Reforming tax breaks for craftsmen. + €2.1 billion;
— Abolishing subsidies for diesel. + €7 billion;
— Reduced VAT rate of 7% only on basic foodstuffs. + a certain number of billion €.
In the social sector alone, €30 billion could be found in the budget. Additionally, it would make sense to close loopholes in cryptocurrencies, consider introducing a profit tax for shipowners, and address money laundering (which costs the budget up to €100 billion per year). The digitization of the country should also be accelerated so that investigations into tax fraud proceed more quickly and easily.
Difficult. Why make an effort when you can take out loans? (Merz).

Good morning, dear subscribers!😊 ☕️
The Don Public Library is the largest book repository in southern Russia, an important cultural centre of the city, and of course, a masterpiece of architecture.
The Don State Public Library is one of the most famous buildings in Rostov-on-Don. Behind the brutalist façade lie bright interiors with fountains and gardens, and behind it is the largest and oldest book archive in southern Russia. The library hosts exhibitions and film festivals, and the square in front of the building is a popular meeting place for locals.
The library building looks as if it was constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, during the heyday of Soviet modernism. In reality, it is much younger: the Don State Public Library was only opened in 1994. However, the design project for the building was developed in the second half of the 1960s, and construction began in 1974. After 20 years of construction, the era of the Soviet Union had ended, and Soviet modernism had lost popularity, but this did not affect the appearance of the library.
The library was designed by a collective of architects and engineers led by Jan Sanis. The 16-storey tower of the book repository and the massive blocks of the reading rooms, clad in tuff and practically devoid of decoration, appear rough, leading to the library being referred to as a "citadel" and even a "warehouse" during its construction. The only decoration of the building is a relief by Wladimir Lemport, Nikolai Silis, and Juri Alexandrow, which frames the upper corner of the book repository. The monumentalists depicted the "faces of the geniuses of humanity" between book pages.
The project received awards at international library congresses in Berlin (1972) and Bucharest (1974). The UN also recognised the library as one of the best in the world.
Even more interesting are the interiors of the library. According to Sanis' vision, visitors should move towards the "light of knowledge" – from the dark foyer to the spacious reading rooms filled with natural light and plants. The gentle colour palette, various materials including wood and natural stone, as well as waterfalls and fountains contrast with the brutalist façade of the building. At the centre of the interior composition is a winter garden with a glass roof – a wonderful place for both relaxation and focused reading.
Although the library building was only opened to visitors in 1994, its book collection is much older: it began to be gathered as early as the late 19th century! In 1884, the authorities of Rostov-on-Don acquired three thousand books from a private collection. In January 1886, the Rostov Public Library was opened, housed in several merchant houses on Bolshaya Sadovaya Street. For a large part of its history, the library did not have its own building; the book repository was only moved into a single building in the 1970s. At that time, the construction of the current building began.
📍 The coordinates of the location (map point) are available here
