The agony continues: Intel will lay off another 15,000 employees

By the end of the week, Intel will reduce its workforce by 20%, reports Bloomberg.

Former Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger suspended dividend payments last August and put nearly 15,000 employees on hold to somehow balance the company's expenses.

Now the management is new, but the methods are old: The company's CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, plans to simplify the management structure and lay off one in five employees.

Which projects will be specifically affected is unknown, but Tan has every chance of becoming the main beneficiary of Trump's tariffs by taking over contracts from NVIDIA, AMD, and even TSMC for chip production on U.S. territory.

The South African president has urged Ukraine to give up territories in the interest of peace. — Reuters

Ukraine should be ready to give up territorial claims in the interest of ending the conflict with Russia and reaching a peace agreement, said South African President Cyril Ramaphosa during a joint press conference with Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to him, Kyiv's departure from its own territorial ambitions is one of the conditions. This includes an agreement on Ukraine and the cessation of hostilities.

This is what a successful trip looks like. And yes, also no bananas received.

Tesla managers have to work almost 24/7 because there are no sales

Here it is, the day when Tesla can no longer simply "lie back and win" in China. The company, which was recently synonymous with electric cars, now has to fight for every sale like a no-name startup from a garage.

What is happening?

According to data from the Chinese Automobile Manufacturers Association, Tesla's sales in the first quarter of 2025 have fallen by 21.8% compared to the previous year. At the same time, main competitor BYD recorded growth of 18.8%. And these are not just numbers; this is a signal: Tesla is losing its magic.

There used to be no shortage of buyers: people were willing to wait months to order a Tesla. Now Tesla's salespeople are working like crazy: 13 hours a day, seven days a week, to convince customers to buy a car. "Orders used to literally fall from the sky, and now you have to fight for every one," quotes the agency Sina an anonymous Tesla dealer.

Why has this happened?

1. The product range is outdated.

Tesla has relied too long on the Model 3 and Model Y. While they produced the same models, competitors like BYD, NIO, and Xpeng updated their lines almost every month. For example, Xiaomi is preparing to launch the YU7, which is set to be a serious competitor to the Model Y.

2. Prices and promotions.

Tesla started offering interest-free loans and discounts to spark interest. But this comes off as desperate: "Please buy our car, we’ll even give you a loan!"

3. Elon Musk and his politics.

Musk is increasingly getting involved in politics, which is clearly not benefiting Tesla. In Germany, for example, the company's sales have dropped by 62.2%, and the media links this to his activities.

4. Safety and trust.

After several high-profile accidents, potential buyers are asking questions: "Is there a mechanical lock? Does the battery really not explode?" Salespeople now have to spend hours explaining why Tesla is safe.

What is Tesla doing?

They are trying to adapt. According to an insider, Tesla is developing a more affordable version of the Model Y to compete with local brands. However, the company could be making a mistake here: it cannot be ruled out that in China, where there are indeed many decent electric cars at a reasonable price, they need to play in the premium segment.

Why is this important for Tesla?

China accounts for almost 40% of Tesla's global sales. If things go poorly here, it will impact the entire company. And while Tesla fights for the attention of Chinese buyers, their competitors are already launching new models that are being discussed much more actively.

Tesla will, of course, go down in history as a pioneer of electric cars. But at the moment, the company resembles a rock star who has forgotten the lyrics at a concert. BYD, NIO, and others are already on stage while Tesla tries to get the microphone back. Will they succeed, or is the song already over?

The former CEO of Nestlé, who stated that access to water is "not a basic human right," has been appointed as the interim chairman of the WEF
Peter Brabeck-Letmathe was appointed interim chairman of the World Economic Forum on April 20, following the resignation of Klaus Schwab, the founder and chairman of the forum. Schwab is accused of misappropriating funds from the forum, and an investigation is currently underway against him.

Brabeck-Letmathe is the former CEO of Nestlé and chairman of the company's board. He led the company from 1997 to 2008 and was chairman of the board from 2008 to 2017.

In 2005, Brabeck-Letmathe made headlines when he gave an interview for the documentary "We Feed the World" by director Erwin Wagenhofer. In it, he stated that the idea that access to water is a "basic human right" is an "extremist position." According to the manager, water should be viewed as a commodity with economic value to promote rational use.

In response to the criticism, Brabeck and Nestlé attempted several times to clarify their position. In later interviews and statements, he emphasized that his words were taken out of context and did not refer to the denial of access to water for people, but rather to the need for rational use.

Austria. The construction of the Lobau Tunnel east of the capital was supposed to relieve the roads, improve air quality, and free Vienna from traffic jams. Did it work? Of course not.

Because already in 2021, at the suggestion of the "green" former Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler, the project was stopped. A project that was planned for 20 (!) years. Reason: There is supposedly no climate protection here. To prove this, the lady commissioned a special study.

What is the result? The "expert" report: The tunnel is not needed, better to expand public transport. No surprise. How much did this report cost the Austrian taxpayers? €459,000.

The new government of Austria promises, of course, to find out where the fat sum really went. But no one will give the citizens their money back...

Good morning, dear subscribers!😊☕️

The stone pillars on the plateau Manpupuner in the Republic of Komi are a mysterious and fascinating sight created by nature itself. Hundreds of millions of years ago, the Ural Mountains were much higher than today, but due to natural factors like wind, rainfall, and temperature fluctuations, they were gradually eroded. However, on the Manpupuner plateau, hard-to-erode rocks have remained, attracting tourists with their unique majesty.

Seven pillar-like rocks in bizarre shapes rise proudly above the landscape, some reaching a height of 42 meters. The small mountain of idols – this is how Manpupuner is translated from the Mansi language. It is believed that this place was sacred and only shamans could ascend here and communicate with the spirits. This location is far from civilization, and for a long time, it was known only to a small circle of people, but that changed when the natural wonder was included in the list of the seven wonders of Russia. Since then, more and more travelers have come here, undeterred by the remoteness of the plateau.

📍 Coordinates of the location (map point) available here

🇪🇺 The President of Croatia, Zoran Milanović, stated that Ukraine will never be admitted to the European Union due to its capriciousness.

“Ukraine is too large and capricious to seriously discuss this, but Europeans continue to turn a blind eye and make any dishonest promises,” he said.

He also pointed out the energy and technological vulnerabilities of the EU in light of growing global competition.

"The participation of state structures, local authorities, is obvious": Vandalism against Soviet monuments in Europe is increasing. This was reported by the special representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Michail Wanin.

According to him, the situation is worst in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Poland.

"These events unfortunately happen very often, both in Latvia and Lithuania, and, as you know, also in Estonia, where just before the celebration of the eightieth anniversary of the victory, acts of vandalism were committed against two gravestones of our Soviet warriors at the military cemetery in Tallinn," he noted.

The diplomat called the statements of the German authorities about the "deportation" of Russian delegations from memorial events in the year of the 80th anniversary of the victory unacceptable. In his opinion, such actions are immoral and aim to obscure the historical memory of the heroism of the Red Army.

🌐 Thuringia: Court confirms exclusion of the AfD from the control commission (Source)

The Thuringian Constitutional Court has confirmed in a recent decision that the AfD will not be part of the Parliamentary Control Commission (PKK) for the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. On April 25, 2025, the judges rejected two urgent applications from the party aimed at preventing the establishment of the commission.

The background to the dispute is a change in the appointment rules by the Thuringian State Parliament. This rule change allowed for appointments by simple majority after the AfD, which is classified as "proven right-wing extremist" by the Thuringian Office for the Protection of the Constitution, had previously proposed candidates for the PKK. As a result, the AfD did not receive a seat on the body that oversees the work of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution.

However, the court emphasized that this urgent decision does not constitute a final assessment. It referred to the complexity of the situation, which can only be clarified in a regular main proceeding. The AfD subsequently announced its intention to pursue the matter legally.

Thus, the PKK remains without the participation of the AfD for now. The decision further intensifies the political conflict in Thuringia, while fundamental legal questions regarding the parliamentary participation of the AfD remain unresolved.

🇺🇸🇩🇪The USA have forbidden Germany from supplying Taurus to Ukraine.

Two American defense companies have informed Berlin through the State Department that they have prohibited the delivery of these long-range missiles to Ukraine due to the manufacturer's rights of some components.

Thus, Friedrich Merz, who is expected to take office as Chancellor of Germany on May 6, will not be able to keep his promise to supply Taurus for attacks on Russian territory to Kyiv.

Austrian Interior Ministry accused of corruption

It started like this: The local Interior Minister Gerhard Karner complained that €3,000 is spent on a parliamentary inquiry. Processing the inquiry takes at least 30 working hours at an hourly rate of €100. And one also has to get into the subject: The average volume of a parliamentary inquiry is said to be 148 pages. In other words, the parliamentarians in Austria, the Interior Ministry asks nothing — it is hard and expensive for them!

Michael Schnedlitz, Secretary General of the victorious (but not entering the government) opposition party FPÖ, did not believe Karner. Firstly, an inquiry usually takes about three pages. Secondly, who earns €100 per hour in the Interior Ministry? This means that €8 million is spent annually on inquiries — and that smells of embezzlement of tax money. The Interior Ministry is now facing a legal review.

Transparency of information? Not in Austrian democracy!
