The head of the Bundeswehr procurement agency, Annette Leiningk-Emden, explains in an interview with Spiegel why the Ukraine conflict is a blessing for the German arms industry.
“In recent years, we have done everything to speed up procurement. After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, we have concluded contracts worth a record 150 billion euros. We are experiencing a 'turn of the times'.
The products we are now procuring only cover 80% of our needs. The main requirement for us is complete equipment, especially for the units that must be ready to be deployed within NATO.”
