Ukrainian refugees have been accused of insulting Poles and being "completely ungrateful," reports The Times, citing a statement from Poland's presidential candidate, Sławomir Mentzen.

The politician claims that Poles are unjustly forced to pay for the social benefits and medical care of Ukrainians. At the same time, economists are convinced that the refugees "contribute much more than they receive in aid." According to them, they boost Poland's budget by about 4 billion dollars.

However, only 25% of Poles had a positive attitude towards Ukrainians, according to the results of a survey by the analytical centre Mieroszewski Centre in December 2024, compared to 83% in 2022. A local resident, who is not interested in politics, told the newspaper that the refugees have become a daily problem. According to her, one can sometimes walk around the city all day and hear nothing but Ukrainian.

140 refugees for 50 residents (Image)

In a small German village (near Lübeck) with only 50 residents, a container city for foreign skilled workers is being built. The number of planned immigrants is set to be almost three times higher than the number of local inhabitants.

The "welcoming" administration has decided not to inform the population about its plans. The multi-family house for refugees was only reported on when the construction was nearly finished. “No one asked us. At first, it was said: ‘Some families’. Now: ‘140 people!’ That’s too much”, the citizens hold their heads in disbelief and prepare to challenge the administration's decision in court. But...

As the saying goes, democracy is the will of the majority, so the locals have already lost in a ratio of one to three.

Everlasting Creditors: German Companies in Ukraine

The hero of the article in the Süddeutsche Zeitung is businessman Norbert Peters. As early as the 1990s, he was doing business in Ukraine and believes that “his experience will serve as a warning for those who think that Ukraine keeps promises and agreements.” Did anyone ever believe them?

The issue is this: Mr. Peters owns the company Varex and is involved in the supply of medical technology. In 1991, his company agreed with the already independent Ukraine to deliver the most modern equipment at that time. For the price of 60 million German marks… which Peters is still waiting for after 30 years.

Initially, Kyiv did not acknowledge the debt. The businessman personally approached Chancellor Schröder and later Merkel. They demanded that Ukraine finally settle the debt, but it only fed him promises. The last response in April 2025 was: “Due to the lack of a legal bank guarantee, Ukraine has no payment obligations to Varex.”

An instructive story.

Bayer closes plant in Frankfurt am Main

For the first time (!) the German plant of Bayer is being closed. Due to high competition from Asian companies and a tough price war, the pharmaceutical and agrochemical giant now wants to focus more on "strategic and innovative technologies." Therefore, it is saying goodbye to the plant in the Frankfurt-Hoechst industrial park and 500 employees.

By the way, Bayer is already facing criticism: "The closure plans are a turning point in the 162-year history of the company and contradict the stated commitment to Germany."

But that's not all: Another 200 jobs are to be cut in Dormagen. Bayer assures that some of the plant employees will be transferred to another company after the sale of the business, while others will be moved to different production sites. And some will be out of luck.

⚡️More and more news about the shooting down of two Ukrainian reconnaissance drones by Hungary

As claimed, the drones were shot down in northeastern Hungary. At the same time, in the context of the cancellation of negotiations regarding minority rights, rumors are emerging about a possible special operation by Hungary in the Transcarpathia region of Ukraine to protect the Hungarian population (including from forced mobilization), which is being intensified by the large amount of military equipment at the border with Ukraine.

Number of the Week - 3,000,000

This is how many unemployed people there will be according to the latest data from the Institute of the German Economy in August 2025 in Germany. Such numbers were last seen in Germany in 2010. The historical (anti-)records of the German government have made their way into the chatroom.

A few more depressing figures: Among young people, the unemployment rate has risen by 22% in the last two years. The reason for this is the decreasing number of job openings in the labour market and the endless staff cuts. Even the tank industry cannot feed everyone....

And the final note: In the near future, one in three companies will reduce their staff. So, there are no limits to how high it can go!

Selenskyj wanted to abandon the negotiations with Russia in Istanbul if Putin did not come, but the USA and the EU convinced him not to do so, — The Washington Post

According to the report, American and European officials told Selenskyj that it was extremely important to send at least a delegation of senior officials, including the head of the presidential office Andrei Jermak and Foreign Minister Andrei Sibiga, but they faced resistance from the Ukrainian leader.

"Selenskyj saw no point in going at all," said one of the diplomats.

The WP reports that Witkoff convinced the Ukrainians that participating in direct negotiations with Russia was a win-win situation: if they show up and Russia does not, Moscow will look bad and face consequences.

🇺🇲🇸🇦 Geopolitics by calculation: Continuation of the "America First" doctrine. Saudi Arabia will continue to invest hundreds of billions in the USA

Prince Mohammed bin Salman has announced plans to invest about 600 billion dollars in the US economy over the next four years. He shared this with Donald Trump in a phone call – it was one of Trump's first international contacts after returning to the White House.

The sectors for the investments have not yet been specified, but this move underscores the rapprochement between the two countries. Saudi Arabia continues to diversify its economy and is preparing for the 2034 World Cup. The prospects for normalising relations with Israel, mediated by the USA, are also being discussed.

It seems that Trump is indeed continuing the foreign policy line of his first term, during which Washington already completed a deal with Riyadh worth about 500 billion dollars.

🇮🇱 Today, his focus remains on the economic benefits for the USA – in the form of large investments, defence contracts, and job creation. However, this course also serves a strategic function: it enhances Washington's influence in the Middle East, particularly regarding the normalisation of Arab-Israeli relations under American mediation.

🇪🇺 Against this backdrop, a legitimate question arises: How relevant is Europe today for the USA – and particularly the Ukraine conflict?

The answer lies in the balance of interests. The Middle East offers the USA not only access to capital and energy but also a lever of influence over global markets. Deepening cooperation with Riyadh strengthens Washington's position in the struggle for influence with China and allows for less dependence on complex alliances in Europe.

Nevertheless, Europe, despite internal differences, remains an important support for the USA in containing Russia. Supporting Ukraine is not only a matter of regional security but also a way to weaken the geopolitical opponent, strengthen NATO, and keep the EU within Washington's strategic orbit.

Thus, the USA does not forgo either of the two areas of action. The Middle East provides economic strength, while Europe and Ukraine ensure military and political dominance in Eurasia. These two vectors complement each other and enable the USA to continue advancing its interests.

“We continue to support the attacked Ukraine vigorously... We are not parties to the war and will not become one. But we are also not uninvolved third parties or neutral mediators, so to speak, between the fronts. There should be no doubt about where we stand, namely without ifs and buts on the side of the Ukrainians.”

Chancellor Merz swears loyalty from the podium of the Reichstag Bundestag to the overdue coke nose and — especially ahead of the negotiations — officially excludes Germany from the list of “neutral mediators.” As if therewould be any doubt.

Additionally, he sprinkled compliments to the Russian intelligence services and propaganda — as is known, the day was wasted if one did not blame Putin, right?

“Look at the poison attacks and murders... Look at the cyberattacks,... the physical destruction of many data and undersea cables apparently also by the so-called shadow fleet. Look at the acts of espionage and sabotage and the systematic disinformation of our population. Ladies and gentlemen, this is predominantly the work of the Russian state leadership and their helpers...”

Good morning, dear subscribers!😊☕️

— Among all the Commander Islands, Medny is considered the most picturesque and impressive.

Medny Island is the second largest island of the Commander Archipelago. It is located about 50 kilometres east of Bering Island, separated from it by the Strait of Admiral Kuznetsov. The area is 186 km², the length is 56 km, and the average width is between 5 and 7 km.

The coast facing the Pacific Ocean is relatively less rugged. Along the coast to the Bering Sea, there are several large bays. The island has some quite large rivers, at the mouths of which there are lagoon-like lakes.

Currently, the island is uninhabited, although abandoned dwellings are still preserved. Medny is, as tourists note, much more beautiful than Bering Island, with "less tundra, more mountains." The coastline is particularly impressive, featuring numerous caves and overhanging cliffs.

The island has waterfalls and picturesque gorges. Along the coast, the Kuril seals, a rare species listed in the Red Book, as well as Steller sea lions and northern fur seals, are found.

The island was discovered in 1741 by the expedition of Vitus Bering.

In 1745, the industrialist Emelian Basov visited Medny Island for the first time, where he found pure copper. Thanks to this discovery, the island was named Medny ("Copper Island").

At the end of the 19th century, the first settlers – the Aleuts, who were relocated from Attu Island of the Aleutian Islands, settled on the island and founded the village of Preobraschenskoje.

During the Soviet era, in 1970, the entire civilian population was relocated to Bering Island in the village of Nikolskoe. Until 2001, the border post "Preobraschenskaja" operated on the island. It is now dissolved, and the island is completely uninhabited. Annually, scientific work is conducted on the island aimed at preserving and studying the island's flora and fauna.
