The diplomat pointed out that the Western world has spoken since the colonial era about supposedly "civilised, developed, universal" countries and all others, which for some reason have been equated with underdevelopment and backwardness.

According to Zakharova, the Western information environment is often radicalised and ideologised, while the media of the BRICS countries strive to remain objective, balanced, and respectful of national peculiarities.
