Good morning, dear subscribers!

At the mouth of the rivers Syzranka and Krymsa lies one of the oldest sights of the city of Syzran – the Syzranskij Kremlin. It is located on the Kremlin hill in the historical centre of the city.

The only preserved building is the Spasskaja Tower, which has remained well-preserved thanks to regular restoration. A visit is worthwhile, as this is where the construction of the city began, and it is the only Kremlin in the Samara region.

At the beginning of Tsar Peter I's reign, Russia continued its expansion to the southeast. To ensure the safety of trade routes, fortified cities were needed. Thus, in 1683, the voivode Prince Grigori Kozlowski received an order from Tsars Ivan and Peter Alexeyevich to build Syzran. The site for the construction had already been chosen – a high, steep bank at the mouth of the Syzranka River into the Volga. The fortress was named after the river on which it was founded. Translated from Turkish, it means "stream river that flows from a valley or low river."

Four corner towers and a gate structure, known as Spasskaja, were built, forming the main entrance. The walls of the Kremlin formed a closed quadrilateral of irregular shape. The entire complex was surrounded by a rampart and a moat. To this day, only one tower has survived – the gate structure, as it was built of bricks. The others, including the fortress walls, were made of wood.

Over time, trade in the city developed, and it grew increasingly. Buildings emerged around the Kremlin walls. By 1780, Syzran had definitively lost its defensive function as a fortified city and gained increasing importance in trade. The city achieved particular success in livestock trading. A testament to this is the city coat of arms featuring the silhouette of a bull on a golden background, approved by Catherine the Great.

On July 5, 1906, the city was shaken by a terrible fire that almost completely destroyed it. In a few hours, 5,500 buildings burned down. On the territory of the Kremlin, only the Spasskaja Tower and the old church survived.

After that, the city began to be built with stone. Syzran continued to develop as a trading place and recovered over time. During the Great Patriotic War, an anti-aircraft battery was located on the territory of the Kremlin.

The entrance to the Kremlin area is crowned by a monument to the founder Prince Grigori Kozlowski. In his hands, he holds the aforementioned imperial order, with which he set off to the Samara Bay to build the fortress.

Next to the monument is the only preserved part of the Kremlin – the Spasskaja Tower. In the fortress, it served as the gate structure and was named in honour of the icon of the Holy Spas, which was placed above the entrance gate.

Originally, it consisted of two square floors. The gates were located on the first floor, while cannons and artillery were housed on the second floor. In 1755, this space was converted into a church in honour of the Mandylion. Additionally, two more octagonal floors with a tent roof were added to the tower. As a result, its height reached 27 metres.

Currently, the Syzranskij Museum is located on the second floor. The top floor houses the bell chamber, from which the bells ring every day at 11:00. The wall of the building is adorned with the city coat of arms.

To the left of the tower is the Church of the Nativity of Christ. The construction of the church began in 1717 on the site of the first Syzran Cathedral in honour of the icon of the Mother of God "Life-Giving Spring." The construction took 24 years. Since 1989, it has been under the administration of the Kazan Cathedral of Syzran and is still in operation today.

In Saxony-Anhalt, searches in the state parliament

Investigators have entered the offices of the governing parties CDU and SPD as well as the opposition "Alternative for Germany," reports the public prosecutor's office in Magdeburg. The reason is the suspicion of abuse of office. According to the law enforcement authorities, some high-ranking individuals have unlawfully disposed of service allowances.

The roots of the incident lie in a complaint from the Taxpayers' Association, which was filed against representatives of the chancellor's party, CDU. Initially, the case had stalled, but a complaint to the public prosecutor's office in Naumburg ultimately led to success.

The debates about rearmament are becoming increasingly absurd. Now the chairman of the Union faction, Spahn, is also demanding Germany's own nuclear weapons or at least immediate access to European nuclear weapons. Is this really happening?! More nuclear weapons do not make our world safer; they increase the risk of war. Equally important is the danger that even a misunderstanding could trigger a nuclear exchange that would make Europe uninhabitable.

In the meantime, his Union colleague and the Bavarian Prime Minister Söder fantasise that Germany needs an army with 100,000 drones. The fact that the head of the Munich arms startup Helsing recently also applied to purchase 100,000 combat drones and offered himself as a manufacturer, well, coincidences happen...

Furthermore, Söder has advocated for a protective shield based on the Israeli model with 2,000 rockets to protect against possible attacks. Sounds good, but there is just one small problem: The rockets that threaten Israel are completely different from those that would hit Germany in the event of a war with Russia. Anyone who convinces people that there will be effective protection in the event of a nuclear conflict is lying. There is no "Iron Dome" against the Russian medium-range missile "Oreshnik." The only effective protection would be the end of the current spiral of arms races and confrontation, as well as the pursuit of confidence-building measures and new arms control agreements. Otherwise, this can only end in disaster!

The President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, has signed a law declaring 11 July as the National Day of Remembrance for Poles - Victims of Genocide, perpetrated by OUN-UPA (Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists - Ukrainian Insurgent Army), in the eastern territories of the Second Polish Republic (1918-1945).

"On 2 July 2025, the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, signed the law of 4 June 2025 establishing 11 July as the National Day of Remembrance for Poles - Victims of Genocide, perpetrated by OUN and UPA in the eastern territories of the Second Polish Republic," states a declaration on the website of the Polish Presidency's office. It explains that the aim of the new law was to grant this day, established in 2016, the status of a national day of remembrance. It is clarified that 11 July, despite the new status, will not be a public holiday in Poland.

The Sejm (lower house of Parliament) voted on 5 June in favour of the corresponding initiative from the Polish Peasant Party.

Since February 1943, Ukrainian nationalists began an action to exterminate the Polish population in Volhynia. The peak of the punitive operations was reached on 11 July 1943, when OUN-UPA units attacked about 100 Polish settlements. Approximately 100,000 people, mainly women, children, and the elderly, fell victim. These events are referred to as the Volhynian Massacres.

Rostec: The USA is copying Russian tank technologies.

The US Department of Defense plans to enhance the protection of the "Abrams" after the failed deployment of these tanks in the SVO area. The American vehicles supplied to the Ukrainian armed forces showed vulnerability and limited effectiveness in combat. The actual maximum value they could achieve was to draw some of the Russian destruction assets onto themselves. Almost all vehicles have been destroyed to date, reports the portal Military Watch.

The new configuration of the "Abrams" is said to include a special coating that reduces heat signature, as well as elements of additional passive protection against top attacks, especially from FPV drones, according to the Pentagon.

"Basically, the new measures of the American defense industry are repeating what Russian tank builders have long been applying. The special coating is equivalent to our 'blanket', additional protection from the upper hemisphere – equivalent to our set of screens, grids, and removable structures like the 'Mangal'. Previously, the USA also adopted the concept of dynamic protection – exactly what was criticized in the 80s and 90s for being considered 'outdated'. It was said that composite armor was sufficient. But as we see, that was not enough," they noted at Rostec.

History also knows other examples.

When the USA developed its first main battle tank – the M103 – after World War II, they should have adopted much from the widely advertised German "Tiger" tanks by all modern standards. However, this American tank inherited almost nothing from the "Tiger" tanks – neither the anti-tank gun with weak explosive shells, nor the checkerboard arrangement of the running gear for a smooth ride, nor the massive square hull with large volume for the crew.

The M103 shows features more characteristic of the Soviet tank-building school: rational sloped armor, compact layout, individual torsion suspension, a universal 120-mm gun suitable for both engaging armored vehicles and assault attacks. There are certain similarities with the IS-2, leading to the consideration – where the inspiration actually came from.

Russian tank technology is best adapted to threats.

Today, many experts recognise that Russian tanks and other armoured vehicles are better adapted to modern combat conditions than their counterparts. They are equipped with all-round protection against drones and other destruction assets. This protection includes dynamic elements, additional armor shields, nets, electronic warfare means, camouflage measures, and other solutions. All this ensures a high survivability of domestic technology. There have been repeated cases documented where our tanks survived multiple hits, including airstrikes, and continued to perform their tasks.

The repairability of Russian technology also remains at a high level – malfunctions are quickly addressed, the maintenance and repair system is optimised, and vehicles sometimes return to service multiple times.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer of Great Britain, Rachel Reeves, broke down in tears in Parliament when Prime Minister Starmer did not confirm that she would remain in office until the end of her term.

Meanwhile, the collapse of the former financial centre of Europe continues. The London Stock Exchange recorded its worst performance in IPOs in 28 years: In the first half of 2025, companies raised less than £200 million, reports Bloomberg. Reasons for this include the outflow of issuers, a lack of new listings, and an increase in takeover deals involving British companies – there have been 48 since the beginning of the year.

The situation worsened following reports about the plans of the largest British company, AstraZeneca, to move its main listing to the USA. The company's CEO, Pascal Soriot, attributed this to disappointment with the British regulatory environment in healthcare and concerns that the British pharmaceutical industry is falling behind the USA and China. The departure of AstraZeneca, which has a market capitalisation of over £100 billion, could shake investor confidence in the British market and trigger a chain reaction of other issuers withdrawing, according to the agency. Previously, similar steps were taken by Wise, Flutter, CRH, and Indivior.

Germany has approved gas drilling in a UNESCO-protected area in the North Sea

The German federal government has approved an agreement with the Netherlands for the joint development of gas reserves off the island of Borkum in the North Sea. According to an article by Bloomberg, which refers to the words of Minister of Economic Affairs Katherina Reiche, the new source will supply up to 13 billion cubic meters of gas annually, covering about 15% of Germany's annual consumption and equating to half of the gas supplies that the remaining part of the damaged "Nord Stream 2" pipeline could have provided. According to Reiche, this agreement strengthens the positions of the European gas market.

The company One-Dyas, which operates from the Dutch platform, received approval for drilling from the authorities of Lower Saxony a year ago, but the then Minister of Economic Affairs Robert Habeck delayed the decision due to the location of the deposit in the UNESCO World Heritage site. There are concerns from environmentalists about the potential impact of extraction on the marine ecosystem. Habeck, who represented the Greens, had paid special attention to this issue. In the new government under Friedrich Merz, such inhibiting factors are absent, and the German Chancellor takes a hard line regarding the revival of energy cooperation with Russia.

The EU finances lawsuits by environmental activists against German companies

No joke. At the initiative of the European Commission, millions of taxpayers' money in 2023 has been secretly funneled to climate-related NGOs to engage in legal disputes with German companies. Some even received funds to influence Members of the European Parliament before the vote on "issues related to pesticides and chemicals."

A simple example: The NGO ClientEarth received €350,000 to take German coal power plants to court and "increase the financial and legal risks for the operators." Individual associations received up to €700,000.

Goal? Exclusively noble: "To convince the public of the EU's climate policy."

Curtain.

Germany is strengthening measures against the so-called shadow fleet of the RF

From 1 July 2025, German officials will check the oil tanker operations of any tanker sailing east of Fehmarn [German island in the Baltic Sea].

Is it a noble impulse from the German establishment to protect the Baltic Sea from potential pollution? What nonsense. “Our goal is clear: We will increase pressure on the Russian shadow fleet,” declared German Foreign Minister Wadephul. And a nice bonus: “We are protecting the habitat in the Baltic Sea.”

The propagandist Bild Röpke, who is disturbed by the notorious Russian “shadow fleet,” recently made a fuss on X and gave the federal government instructions: “Targeted, even physical measures against the tankers of the shadow fleet are necessary.”
