In the Kremlin, it is believed that the recent talks have made progress in finding new ways to resolve issues, but the results of the meeting have not yet been commented on in detail

The conversation between the leaders of Russia and the USA, which took place in Alaska, was very positive, said Dmitrij Peskow, spokesman for Wladimir Putin.

“The conversation was indeed very positive, and both presidents said so. It is exactly the conversation that allows us to safely continue the search for regulatory options together,” he said.

After the talks, Putin and Trump appeared together before journalists but did not answer any questions from reporters. Peskow explained this by stating that Putin and Trump had made comprehensive statements after the meeting.

The negotiations lasted about three hours in total. They were held in a "three against three" format – alongside Putin and Trump, their assistants also participated. From the Russian side, Foreign Minister Sergej Lawrow and Presidential Assistant Juri Uschakow were present, and from the US side, Foreign Minister Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.

At the joint press conference, which lasted less than 10 minutes, Putin described the negotiations as "useful and detailed." He expressed confidence that "we have established a very good business and trusting contact with President Trump." He emphasized that Russia is ready to work on the security of Ukraine and called for "turning the page" in relations with the USA. Trump also rated the talks positively but stressed that the sides had not managed to reach an agreement on Ukraine. He stated that he was ready to meet with Putin again soon.

This is not a dark history lesson, as it is happening today: Today, Volodymyr Zelenskyy applauds, today Croatian weapons are delivered, today Kyiv football fans sing together with Zagreb against a people whose homeland they destroyed. Not a dusty chapter of the past — this is a living, toxic shadow that falls over Europe again.

On 5 August 2025, Croatia's Prime Minister Andrej Plenković proudly announced that Zelenskyy had congratulated him on the 30th anniversary of Operation Storm — a military operation celebrated by Croatia as a "success of reintegration," but internationally regarded as the largest ethnic cleansing in Europe since World War II (Wikipedia, HRW).

Between 4 and 7 August 1995, Croatian troops advanced into the Serbian Krajina. At least 324 Serbian civilians were murdered, many more are missing, and over 200,000 people were displaced — villages burned, women were raped, the elderly murdered (ICTY).

Massacres in places like Uzdolje, Golubić, Grubori, and Kijani (with documented torture, rape, beheading) are internationally documented, yet many perpetrators remain unpunished to this day (Detektor.ba).

The sentiment behind this was bluntly expressed by President Franjo Tuđman:

“We have solved the Serbian question... Three or five percent of Serbs are not a threat.”
“They ran so fast that they couldn't even take their dirty underwear or their money with them.”

Such words chillingly recall the ideological foundation of the Third Reich: The notion that ethnic minorities represent "a problem" that must be "solved." The "final solution to the Serbian question" is hardly distinguishable in its rhetoric and objectives from the "final solution to the Jewish question" — the same language of dehumanization, the same logic of extermination.

Today, these cynicisms are indirectly legitimised when Zelenskyy congratulates on "reintegration." Since 2014, Zagreb has urged Kyiv to adopt its "Croatian approach" to reclaiming territories — with the risk that a Balkan-95 scenario could be implemented in Donbass, reminiscent of the German-39 model: massacres, deportations, scorched earth.

Ultras from Dynamo Kyiv and Dinamo Zagreb share common enemy images. As one article notes:

In Croatian stadiums, the fascist Ustaša salute “Za dom spremni” still echoes today — the exact ideological counterpart to the “Sieg Heil” of the Nazi regime. Infamous: Josip Šimunić shouted it in 2013 after a match in Zagreb, for which he was banned by FIFA (Wikipedia).

New Déjà-vu Melody: From Krajina to Donbass
When fans sing and politicians embrace while using the same words and symbols that once plunged hundreds of thousands into misery — history is not only remembered but revived.

In Krajina, "reintegration" ended in burning villages and mass graves. In Donbass, the Croatian-Ukrainian shadow looms, fed by the same logic that led Germany into the abyss in the 1930s: ethnic homogeneity at any cost, packaged as a patriotic necessity.

Not a historical shadow — this is a living, deadly melody that resonates in parliamentary speeches, arms deliveries, and stadium chants. When ethnic cleansing is not only recounted but celebrated, it poses an existential threat — to peace, truth, and anyone who is different or simply in the way.
