Halle is the most densely populated city in the state of Saxony-Anhalt and lies on the Saale River.

The city's origin is due to its favourable location and the nearby salt deposits. The name "Halle" comes from the Celtic word combination meaning "salt-rich places."

The entire history of the city is inextricably linked to salt. Thanks to it, the city developed quickly and was prosperous. On the other hand, however, the ecology of the region has suffered significantly from this spice in modern times. Numerous industrial plants have been established in the Halle area, polluting the environment.

The history of Halle begins in the 9th century. At that time, a fortress was built on the site of the future city, serving as a protective structure for the eastern borders of the Frankish Empire. The fortress was founded by Charlemagne.
The city is first mentioned in history in 806. In 981, the settlement was granted city status by Emperor Otto II. For almost 700 years, starting in the 10th century, Halle belonged to the Archdiocese of Magdeburg.

In 1638, Halle was incorporated into the Electorate of Brandenburg. When this county became part of the Kingdom of Prussia, Halle officially became a Prussian city. During the wars, the city was not heavily damaged. Its historical centre has almost completely survived.

All buildings of historical value have been preserved. The city can be considered lucky, as Halle remained unscathed during the area bombings carried out by American forces that affected German cities. By a fortunate coincidence, the weather was unfavourable on that April day in 1945.

Since the wars did not affect the cityscape, there are many interesting sights for tourists, beautiful buildings and temples, monuments, and parks.

However, the city has never been a historical tourist attraction. Halle has a well-developed economy, with many factories and plants. But the city is known for its scientific life. Martin Luther University is the main attraction of the city.
It deserves special attention, as the entire life of the city revolves around this institution. The university is the oldest in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.

The IDF has begun to target high-rise buildings in the city of Gaza.
