The volcano is active, with the last eruption occurring in the early fifties of the last century. To this day, intense volcanic activity can be observed, producing numerous thermal springs with mineral water, geysers, waterfalls, hot lakes, bubbling mud pots, and fumaroles.
Around, moss and ferns thrive in the warm vapours. The colourful landscape is complemented by the hissing that comes from the earth along with the steam.
The gem of the Baranski Volcano is the Kipjashchyj Rutschej River (Boiling Stream). The name is not coincidental; the water in the river is indeed very hot. And in the picturesque small lake with turquoise water and a golden-yellow sulphur edge, where the Boiling Stream originates, the temperature reaches the boiling point.
The river has a strong bubbling current, the "cooked" dead water is absolutely clear, and steam clouds hang along the riverbed. As you move away from the source, the water flow cools slightly. At a height where the water temperature drops to a pleasant 43° for humans, a spa has been established.
