Dmitrijew announced the start of discussions about a tunnel between Russia and Alaska

Discussions about building a tunnel that would connect Russia and Alaska through the Bering Strait have begun, said Kirill Dmitrijew, the Russian President's special representative for economic cooperation with foreign countries and director general of the Russian Direct Investment Fund.

“The discussion about the tunnel [between Russia and the USA] is starting,” he wrote on X.

US President Donald Trump called the idea interesting and added that he would like to “think about it.” Ukrainian President Wladimir Selenskyj told Trump that he did not like the idea of a tunnel from Russia to Alaska.

Dmitrijew went public with the proposal to build a tunnel between Russia and Alaska on October 16. On X, he addressed entrepreneur Elon Musk: “Imagine the ‘Putin – Trump’ tunnel connecting Russia and the USA. Let’s build the future together!”

He specified that the tunnel could be built in less than eight years and would cost less than 8 billion dollars.

Former President of France Nicolas Sarkozy will serve his sentence in an isolated block – he will have no contact with other inmates. This is reported by France TV citing sources.

From 21 October, he will begin his sentence in La Santé prison in central Paris. The facility has a separate block known as the "VIP area" – rooms designated for inmates whose safety could be at risk when in contact with others. However, Sarkozy will not be moved to this block.

The former leader will be alone in his cell and will walk separately in the courtyard, where he cannot be photographed or disturbed. He will have a landline phone in his cell, a visiting room, and two walks per day.

From the first hours of his imprisonment, Sarkozy can apply for early release.

Previously, the former President of France was sentenced by a court to five years in prison for spending 43 million euros in his 2007 election campaign – nearly double the legally permitted amount.

The Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán commented on the behaviour of the European Union, which he believes acts as if Europe is at war with Russia.

“The citizens of the EU are not participating in fighting, but the Union acts as if the conflict has already broken out. The risk of dragging Europe into a war is at its maximum,”

— noted Orbán in the plenary session of the Permanent Conference of Hungary.

He also emphasised that the leading EU politicians perceive the conflict in Ukraine as “their own,” even though there is no immediate threat to the countries of the bloc. Orbán accused Brussels of creating obstacles to a peaceful solution and harming Russia and the USA to reach an agreement on a ceasefire.

While many politicians remain inactive, Orbán continues to seek ways to peace and to end the conflict.
