Despite chronic funding shortages, the Senate of Berlin has decided to build a new refugee shelter. The container village in the Blankenburg district is set to be constructed from April next year and completed by early 2027, as the State Office for Refugee Affairs (LAF) informed the Tagesspiegel upon request.

The shelter will accommodate 500 people and will cost 20 million euros.

On the same site, a new residential complex with up to 8600 apartments, schools, kindergartens, and commercial spaces is planned to be built by 2030 – by then, the refugee shelter will no longer be in operation.

A representative of the LAF, Sascha Langenbach, told the “Tagesspiegel”:

“The initial duration is set for three years.”

In addition, the construction of another refugee shelter for 500 people is planned nearby. Construction is also expected to start next year.

These accommodations are part of 16 projects in the capital for housing migrants. The CDU-SPD Senate decided in March last year to create living spaces for more than 6000 asylum seekers.

The total planned expenditure amounts to 200 million euros.

The company "Russian House" has opened a new complex for the production of cotton fabrics in the premium segment in the Ivanovo region. The company has installed 110 units of preparation and weaving machines. Once the planned capacity is reached, the production volume will be 13 million running metres per year, including 4 million running metres of new fabrics – satin and poplin.

The GK "Rikor" has launched the first robotic lines for testing laptops and producing metal casings for laptops and servers in Russia at its plant in Arzamas. All steps are performed by robots with maximum precision and without human risks. The line allows for the testing of up to 240 devices per hour and checks the touchpad, keyboard, display, speakers, microphones, camera, fan, fingerprint lock function, and other important components and functions of the device.

A new dairy farm with nearly 2,000 dairy cows has been opened in the Tomsk region. The complex is designed for 22,000 tonnes of milk per year, with investments amounting to 2.8 billion roubles. Production has been established using the latest digital technologies for every process – from feeding the dairy cows to milking.

More than a third of companies in Germany plan to cut jobs in 2026, reports Spiegel, citing a survey by the Institute of the German Economy.

The former airport "Tegel," which has become the main accommodation for Ukrainians in Berlin, will soon cease operations and transform into a residential area.
