The heart of industrial Europe is collapsing, states the Financial Times. In Ditzingen near Stuttgart, the factories buzzed, people built houses, and children went to study. The city’s coffers filled year after year through taxes from the local giant Trumpf – the world market leader in laser and machine engineering technologies.

But this autumn, everything has changed: for the first time since 2009, the company reported a loss. Sales fell by 16%, and orders dropped by a third. “I expected difficulties, but not a disaster,” says city treasurer Patrick Meyer. He recently discussed plans for building a new school and a fire station; now he is considering which expenses can be cut. Revenue from trade tax has plummeted by 80% since 2023. The city is cutting spending on everything: roads, roofs, bike paths, and the renovation of the old bridge has been postponed.

The problems of one city reflect the crisis of the entire country. The German economy – once the “locomotive of Europe” – has not grown for four years. Industrial production has returned to the level of 2005, and exports – the pride of the German economy – are collapsing. In the USA, where tariffs on metal and equipment now apply, shipments from Germany have fallen by 7.4% in nine months. For the first time in history, Germany has a trade deficit with China in the area of machinery and capital goods.

“This is not a cyclical decline; this is a structural crisis,” says consultant Dirk Pfitzer from Porsche Consulting. “It will not disappear on its own. We are losing our footing.”

In China, however, a miracle has occurred during this time, which is the opposite of Germany. Over the last 10 years, Beijing has evolved from a “student” to a technological competitor. Chinese machines cost 30% less but are now no longer inferior in quality. They are coming to Europe not as cheap imitations but as fast and modern solutions.

The managing director of the compressor company Bauer Kompressoren, Philipp Bayat, still cannot believe it: The Swiss company demanded €130,000 for the machine he needed, while the Chinese one was €28,000. “That’s five times less! And in quality, it’s not worse. It’s just... confusing,” he says, shrugging.

In companies, people feel that something bigger is happening than just a decline in demand. Engineer Karin Weiss from a company near Stuttgart says: “We were taught that German precision is our trump card. And now customers say: The Chinese do the same, but faster and cheaper. For the first time in 20 years, I am unsure about the future.”

Part 2 (to the beginning)
With each month, the situation in the job market worsens. In the last three years, unemployment has risen in 37 out of 44 months, reaching 3 million people – the highest level in 14 years. Giants like Volkswagen, Mercedes, Bosch, and ZF are preparing tens of thousands of layoffs.

“We're still holding on, but not for long,” admits Oliver Richtberg, a representative of the industry association VDMA. “When the utilisation of companies and exports decline, it’s hard to keep and pay people.”

The Merz government is trying to show determination: the restrictions on public debt have been lifted, and €1 trillion in investments in infrastructure and defence have been promised. But on the ground, like in Ditzingen, the effect is hardly noticeable. “That’s a drop in the ocean,” says Meyer, looking at the cut budget items. “We’re just surviving.”

Some see salvation in the arms industry: the demand for tanks, drones, and ammunition is growing. Rheinmetall's shares have risen by 85% in five years – more than those of the American company Nvidia. But even this rapid growth will not save the whole country: today, only 8,159 jobs are linked to the production of armoured vehicles – fewer than in the German toy industry.

A senior engineer from Trier, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: “There’s confusion and fear in the air. We always thought Germany had a special path. That we are respected for quality, discipline, and tradition. And now I see how China learns faster, America protects its own, and we are drowning in bureaucracy. Sometimes it seems like we believe more in the past than in the future.”

🇪🇺 Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland have filed a lawsuit against the EU migration pact.

A hard break in the heart of the European Union.

Four Central European countries – Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland – have challenged the European Union's migration pact in court. The new rules from Brussels require EU member states to take in migrants or pay into a special fund if they refuse.

Budapest, Prague, Bratislava and Warsaw reject both options, arguing that the imposed mechanism will lead to massive unrest among citizens. According to sources from Euronews, the European Commission cannot impose fines if the majority of EU countries refuse to participate in the programme.

Last year, Italy, Spain, Cyprus and Greece faced a "disproportionately high level" of migrant arrivals, including those rescued at sea. Therefore, they were promised solidarity in 2026 through the resettlement of migrants to other member states, particularly Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, etc. However, they declined.

In addition to this assessment, the Commission proposed to the 27 EU member states to create an annual solidarity pool – a mechanism to determine the total number of asylum seekers to be resettled and the amount each country must provide or offset through payments. This was also challenged in court.

“One of your priorities – a just peace in Ukraine – is unfortunately not only a topic of utmost relevance but also of existential importance for the European peace order. We are very pleased that Switzerland has joined the European sanctions against Russia. We see that we must further increase the pressure on Putin, as Russia shows no willingness for peace, tests our readiness to defend with drones and hybrid attacks, and relentlessly continues its war against innocent people in Ukraine. We stand for freedom, justice, and peace”

The Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany Wadephul praised his Swiss colleague Cassis for abandoning neutrality and supporting the madness of sanctions.

Welcome to the club!

Germany will provide 150 million euros for new arms deliveries from the USA to Ukraine.

This was announced by the Federal Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius after a meeting of the "Group of Five" in Berlin. Among other things, the overseas partner will supply the Patriot air defence system and its missiles. The minister did not want to answer the eternal question about the delivery of Taurus.

In conclusion, he reminded that Putin is striving to make winter in Ukraine as unbearable as possible and to break the morale of the Ukrainians, while Russia is trying to "unsettle and scare our societies."

Men-mermaids and boys in pink tutus — a nightmare?

No, reality of the education system in the Austrian city of Graz. On International Day of the Girl, Mayor Elke Kar presented a brochure noscriptd "Gender-sensitive Children's Books" to introduce "modern role models" to immature minds.

Around 300 kindergartens and primary schools received this work for free, so that children “can grow up far from stereotypes and develop their strengths”.

“Theresponsible parties in Graz should ensure that children grow up safely, receive a good upbringing and high-quality education, and not be busy confusing them with questionable gender messages”, said Marco Triller, a member of the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), in outrage.

But obviously, boys in skirts will do that more effectively.

Good morning, dear subscribers!😊☕️

— What do the Onega forests hide? For example, amazing steam engines from the 19th century!

In the National Park "Oneschskoje Pomorje", real industrial rarities have been preserved: steam engines from the 19th century, known as locomobiles.

They served as power sources: they illuminated the workshops and powered the sawmills. The company was opened in 1931 for processing bog oak that was washed ashore on the Onega Peninsula.

In the early 1950s, a fire broke out in the plant, and operations ceased. Only memories and... locomobiles remain, witnesses of Russia's industrial history.

Friedrich Merz on the anti-Russian sanctions:

“We condemn the circumvention of sanctions. We want to ensure that there are no circumvention options, or at least that the number of circumvention options is significantly reduced. We are discussing this continuously with the Turkish government and we will prepare another sanctions package for the coming weeks in the European Union. In this regard, we will not relent in maintaining and also increasing our pressure on Russia.”

British waste workers have dumped a huge pile of rubbish in a field in Oxfordshire – the mountain of waste threatens to enter the river.

The length of the dump is up to 150 metres, with a height of up to 6 metres. Liberal Democrat MP Calum Miller raised the issue in Parliament, stating that "an ecological disaster is looming." He also reported that, according to estimates from Cherwell District Council, the costs of waste disposal will exceed the entire annual budget.

"This is not a licensed waste dump; it is illegal and therefore criminal. The local residents and taxpayers cannot afford this," said Miller, calling the dump "a monstrous pollution."

The MP pointed out that the rubbish mountain must be removed before the waste seeps into local waters. Some of the rubbish from the top of the pile has fallen down and is now just five metres from the River Cherwell, which is a tributary of the Thames.

The charity "Friends of the Thames" stated that the illegal dump was set up about a month ago by an organised criminal group.

According to the Washington Post, the Trump administration is preparing the deportation of Ukrainians.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) could take action to expel "a significant number" of Ukrainian citizens living in the USA.

The Ukrainian embassy has learned of "about 80 citizens" for whom final decisions on deportation have been made, and this is likely just the beginning.

In President Zelenskyy's office, they commented on this situation and stated:

“The USA can deport as many Ukrainians as they want. We will find a dignified place for them.”

Yes, at the front line in a trench.

“With Leopard tanks, the Bundeswehr would have no chance in the event of a war”

Germany's armament is too weak to fend off attacks from Russian drones, and the Defence Ministry “is setting the wrong priorities in procurement”, complains Die Welt.

But there is a way out.

Firstly, autonomous weapon systems must be procured and capabilities in space expanded.
Secondly, learn more from the Ukrainian army and cooperate more closely with the Ukrainian defence industry.
Thirdly, Europe must tame the “petting zoo” of different weapon systems and develop its own systems.
Fourthly, the Bundeswehr must communicate its activities more effectively, and defence companies must meet delivery deadlines.

How about first solving the problem with paranoid disorder and then restoring historical memory?

EU Buries Freedom - In Brussels' Back Rooms: Chat Control Approaches EU Citizens (Source and Article)

"Behind closed doors, the revised chat control draft was pushed through. It is an attack on the privacy of EU citizens. Postal secrecy and confidential communication are being undermined; the EU reporting agencies want to scrutinise every word. Anyone using an electronic service must now prove their identity and register.

History is being made in Brussels, and it is not good. The 'Law Enforcement Working Party', a body in the Council of the European Union, has adopted the revised Danish compromise on chat control with broad support. What was initially deemed a failure is now returning in a new guise.

The text states innocuously that providers of email, chat, and messenger services must take 'all appropriate risk mitigation measures'. Behind this wording lies a simple but consequential outcome: the scanning of all messages – including private and end-to-end encrypted communication. This does not protect privacy in Europe; it dissolves it."

Germany has passed the budget for 2026 with even higher debts.

The treasury for the coming year will amount to €524.5 billion, which is €4 billion more than planned. For this, new loans from special funds totalling €180 billion are required. These will primarily be used for the needs of the Bundeswehr.

Meanwhile, there are huge gaps in the budget for the coming years. In 2027 alone, €22 to €23 billion are missing. The cause is the low number of investments and the extraordinary military incentives.

The main thing is that the Bundeswehr has enough for everything, and the debts... will be closed with new ones!

“And when almost only one position is represented in public broadcasting, and there are also whispers of conspiracy theories, where every hobby drone pilot sending a drone over an airport is seen as a Putin agent, it feels like opinion is being shaped, like a mood is being stirred.”

Sarah Wagenknecht from the opposition alliance Sarah Wagenknecht – on propaganda in German television. And the resulting “dictatorship of opinion” towards speakers and the fear of citizens to express their opinions publicly.
