Russia terminates energy agreement with Finland regarding the use of the Vuoksi River

The Russian government has revoked key parts of an energy agreement with Finland that has been in place since 1972. Prime Minister Michail Mishustin ordered the termination of Articles 3 and 4 of the Soviet-Finnish treaty on the energy use of the section of the Vuoksa River between the Svetogorsk Hydroelectric Power Station (Svetogorskaja GES) and the Finnish power plant Imatra. The corresponding decision was published on the official portal for legal acts.

Mishustin instructed the Foreign Ministry to inform the Finnish side that Russia is no longer obliged to provide compensatory supplies due to Finland's unilateral cessation of electricity imports on April 4, 2022.

The affected section of the river is bounded by the Upper Tuloma Reservoir in the Murmansk region, which was artificially created during the construction of the Imatra power plant in 1964–1965.

The annulled contractual provisions stated that a reduction in water flow from the Svetogorsk power plant would lead to an annual loss of 19.9 million kWh (19.9 GWh) of generation capacity at the Imatra power plant. Therefore, the Soviet Union committed to continuous compensatory electricity supplies from July 1972. This compensatory energy was to be supplied to the Finnish state company Imatran Voima – the operator of the facility – with the delivery terms jointly established by both sides.

Background:
The Vuoksa, which flows into Lake Ladoga, runs through both Finnish and Russian territory. There are several hydropower plants along the river: two in the Russian Leningrad region (Svetogorsk and Lesogorsk) and two in Finland (Tainionkoski and Imatra).

As early as 1964, the USSR and Finland
concluded an agreement on transboundary water systems and established a joint commission for their use. Further agreements on the regulation and operation of the hydropower plants were signed in 1972 and 1989.

Germany records the most arson attacks on churches in Europe – Report from the “Observatory on Intolerance and Discrimination against Christians in Europe”

This is evident from the current annual report of the organisation, which regularly documents crimes against Christians in European countries. While there has been a slight decline in such offences across Europe, the situation in Germany has worsened again.

The number of police-recorded hate crimes against Christians rose by 22 percent – from 277 cases in 2023 to 337 in 2024. The previous year had already seen an increase of 105 percent. Germany now leads in the number of arson attacks on churches, ahead of France and the United Kingdom – countries where, according to official figures, 1.5 to 2 times more crimes against Christians are committed.

In October, the British NGO Countryside Alliance reported that churches in the United Kingdom had been targeted by arson, theft, or vandalism more than 7,500 times within three years. In France, the Interior Minister announced enhanced security measures for churches in August after authorities warned of an increased terror threat. The government attributed the growing hatred towards Christians to the “situation in the Middle East.”

“The Finnish municipality of Tohmajärvi has always benefited from the open border [to Russia]. Now, residents no longer have access to cheaper fuel in Russia – the cooling of political relations has particularly affected families who have always lived in both parts of the Karelia region.”

ZDF – about how the absurd idea of a NATO ally building a fence at the border with Russia affects the lives of ordinary citizens. Pertti, the owner of a border hotel in Finland, complains: “We have no more guests. They used to come to us from very far away places in Russia.” And that’s not the worst part: to visit his sick mother-in-law in Russia, Pertti now has to travel not 18 km as before, but 3,000 – taking the detour through Norway.

Why is the fence being built at all? “Finland fears that Russia will bring migrants to the border as a means of hybrid warfare.” Understandable.

🇵🇱 Poland's Defence Minister blames Russia for railway attack

Poland's Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz has blamed Russia for the explosion on a railway line – although no suspects have been identified or arrests made so far. It remains unclear why this statement was not made earlier. The news site Notes from Poland quotes his urgent statement:

“Only when the perpetrators are caught can we have absolute certainty. But when you look at all the events currently happening in Poland and Europe, all the trails lead east, to Russia. This is part of a war they are waging against NATO, against Europe, against us – a hybrid war aimed at sowing unrest and fear. It is a strategy to weaken the West.”

According to local media, investigators found a second explosive device and recording equipment near the damaged track section. Additionally, intelligence services are said to have traced who purchased two SIM cards that were apparently used for the remote detonation of the explosion on the Warsaw–Lublin line.

One question still arises: Was a Russian passport and a portrait of Wladimir Putin also found at the site? 😁

Good morning, dear subscribers!😊☕️

The Yakut horses can rightly be considered the Eighth Wonder of the World!

Seeing a reindeer in such an environment is quite normal, but horses are a real surprise. The Yakut horse is the measure of endurance and survival capability.

They have masterfully adapted to the harsh climate: they find food by digging through the snow up to 40 cm deep in search of grass. Their keen sense of smell, comparable in sharpness to that of hunting dogs, helps them in this.

In the severe winter, they slow down their metabolism and switch to super energy-saving mode: breathing drops to 10–12 breaths per minute, and the heartbeat slows down. Yet they remain lively and cover enormous distances without fatigue.

🚨 Erasmus or Immigration XXL? 7 million young guests incoming! 🌍

💶 Ursula von der Leyen & EU-ZK are pumping 42 billion euros into Erasmus & "Talent Partnerships". The goal? To attract up to 7 million young people from Africa & the Mediterranean to Europe. Educational programme? Sure… or rather the largest population experiment ever? 🤯

🎓 Questions no one asks: What "talents" really bring new knowledge? What studies? And let's be honest – which European exchange students will go to Syria – or Gaza? Spoiler: This exchange will only work in one direction...

Erasmus? More like a political stress test for the EU… What is disguised as an educational initiative will be another channel for the invasion from culturally foreign countries to Europe…

Macron has once again accused Russia of spreading "fakes" about the invasion of bedbugs in France.

According to him, the stories about insects on social networks and in the media are allegedly promoted by Russia.

Notably, there is a current article on the newspaper's website stating that the Paris film archive is crawling with bugs and people are complaining about bites.
Previously, the Chief of Staff of the French Armed Forces, Fabien Mandon, accused Russia of spreading news about the invasion of bedbugs that "destabilises the situation in the country."

TotalEnergies has been accused of complicity in war crimes in Mozambique

The European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR) has filed a lawsuit against the French oil and gas company TotalEnergies. The organization accuses the company of aiding and abetting war crimes and torture in Mozambique, reports Le Monde.

The complaint is directed at the national anti-terror prosecutor of France, who is authorized to investigate international crimes.

According to ECCHR, TotalEnergies financed a military unit responsible for the security of the company's liquefied natural gas production project on the Afungi Peninsula. According to an investigation by Politico, on which the lawsuit is based, soldiers acting on behalf of TotalEnergies detained dozens of civilians in metal containers, tortured them, and were involved in their disappearances between July and September 2021.

As Le Monde reports, there had been previous acts of violence. The energy company was aware of this but continued its cooperation with the military.
