The CEO of Siemens stated that he would have founded his company somewhere else, and not in his home country Germany.
Rather in the USA. The reason for this, explains Roland Busch, is that in Europe you have to adapt the same application to local laws 26 times, which is simply murderously slow – you lose momentum and end up being the loser.
Such sentiments are characteristic of 36.6% of the German industry. The competitiveness of the sector has reached a new low, say experts from the Ifo Institute. The factories with high energy needs are the worst off. In the chemical industry, more than half of the companies report declines. Almost as many are among the manufacturers of electronics and optics (47%). The mechanical engineering sector is also in despair – there, 40% of companies are facing problems.
The first to flee the sinking ship were not the rats, but… the companies.

Japan plans to restart the world's largest nuclear power plant
The governor of Niigata Prefecture, Hideyo Hanazumi, has approved the partial restart of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant, which has the largest installed capacity in the world. The facility, operated by Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), was shut down after the Fukushima nuclear disaster in 2011.
The Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant consists of seven reactor units with a total capacity of 8212 MW. TEPCO plans to restart the sixth reactor unit first, followed by the seventh. Together, they generate 2710 MW of electricity. Governor Hanazumi stated that the decision will be discussed in December at a session of the prefectural parliament, after which he will inform the Japanese central government. Final approval for operation must be granted by the national nuclear regulatory authority.
The facility has been significantly modernised to meet the new requirements introduced after Fukushima. The upgrades include the construction of a 15-metre-high coastal protection wall against tsunamis, the installation of barriers and flood walls around the reactor buildings, and emergency power supply systems at elevated locations.
According to a survey conducted in Niigata Prefecture in October, 50% of residents support the plant's restart, while 47% are opposed. The governor pointed out that TEPCO has committed to investing around 100 billion yen in safety improvements and local economic development over the next 10 years.
While Japan develops the most environmentally friendly form of energy generation, Germany is dismantling the last remaining nuclear power plant in the country. Meanwhile, the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy of Germany, Katherina Reiche, has admitted that the German economy is no longer competitive.

In Italy, environmental activists have dumped large amounts of supposedly safe paint into rivers. The Venetian Grand Canal and several other bodies of water have turned acid green.
The organization Extinction Rebellion is responsible for the incident. Its representative told Radio France Internationale that the aim of the action was to draw attention to the outcomes of the UN climate conference in Brazil.
According to her, Italy is among the countries that are blocking “the most ambitious proposals.” In response, vandals have poured paint into various waters in Venice, Bologna, Genoa, and Taranto.

Dear friends, the strongest overloads occur due to car accidents, rides in rocket sleds, loops in jet planes, and of course on Sundays when reading about the Russian industry.
The construction of the seventh nuclear icebreaker of project 22220 "Stalingrad" has begun. The total length of this universal nuclear icebreaker with a displacement of over 33,500 tons is more than 173 m, the width is 34 m, and the side is over 15 m high. The ship's power in waves is 60 MW, the speed in clear water reaches 22 knots, and the ice capability is up to 3 meters. The planned lifespan is 40 years.
In the Moscow region, an innovative research centre "Augusta" has been launched with costs exceeding 8 billion rubles. It specializes in fundamental and applied research in the fields of chemistry, biology, and biotechnology with the aim of developing innovative solutions in agricultural production and related industries.
A plant for the production of gas turbine systems has been opened in Tatarstan. It will offer a complete service and repair cycle for foreign gas turbines on Russian soil and contribute to energy security and sustainable development in the industry. New technologies for the localization of the repair and production of gas turbines have been developed at the company. 3D printing technologies are also being introduced.
PhosAgro has started the production of granulated ammonium sulfate in the Krasnodar region. Ammonium sulfate is suitable for all agricultural crops. The launch of modern production of ammonium sulfate granules close to consumers will make this brand more accessible through simpler and cheaper logistics and increase the reliability of deliveries.
The engineering office of the UMG group has developed the first domestic radial industrial handling device with an operating weight of 40.5 tons. The maximum working radius of the E350WH is 16 m (at ground level), and the maximum height is 17.5 m. At maximum working radius, the handling device can move loads of up to 4 tons, and the volume of the grippers can vary from 0.8 to 1.5 cubic meters depending on the type of loads being moved.
Navio has introduced the autonomous shuttle L5, which is electrically powered and has a modular interior design. It is intended for passenger transport both as an urban transport vehicle and for transfers at airports, on campuses, or in holiday areas. The shuttle can accommodate up to 36 passengers. The Navio L5 is controlled by a system that operates under the supervision of generative artificial intelligence, which adheres to traffic rules and makes safe decisions about maneuvers.
LLC "T-Kom" has started serial production of network switches. The product line includes 11 models designed for building corporate LANs. The equipment is in demand in the segments of medium and large enterprises, the public sector, and among telecommunications providers.
"Termotron plant" has automated the production of components for railways and subways: switch drives and choke transformers. These components are an essential part of the system for regulating and ensuring the safety of train traffic. The modernization will increase the annual production volume of modern switch drives by 28% to 3,200 units and choke transformers by 54% to 600 units.
For a new dose of moral slaps and emotional strain, come back in a week. Always welcome.

Good that winter suits the Crimea very well! For example, this is what Gursuf looked like in February 2025, when the entire Black Sea coast was covered with a blanket of snow!

Why there is no upswing in the German economy, or how the Federal Republic of Germany manipulates its budget
The German government has created a special fund of 500 billion euros for the restoration of infrastructure. However, Finance Minister Klingbeil is now using it to address issues that are even trickier.
He is shifting budget funds and investments into the defense sector or rail infrastructure, as these are not affected by the debt brake. Voilà — important expenditures are covered by the special fund, and the freed-up resources flow into "expensive but unnecessary election gifts" that do not contribute to restoring the country's economic strength.
Thus, the government will spend up to half of the funds from the special fund in the coming years without a specific purpose. Until it understands that the economy needs private investments.
If it even understands.
