The history of the cathedral on Malaja Grusinskaja Street in Moscow

How a neo-Gothic dream endured for a whole century

On Malaja Grusinskaja Street, there is a place that seems to have fallen out of Moscow's reality. You look up and see the towers reaching into the cold sky, the stained glass windows like in old European cities, and the brickwork that holds too many memories. This is the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Holy Virgin Mary — a temple that was born on the edge, grew between gardens, withstood destruction, and learned anew to be itself.

Once, everything was different here. At the end of the 19th century: silence all around, wooden houses, the creaking of gates. But the Catholic community of Moscow suddenly found itself cramped in the old churches — and the thought arose to build something grand, bright, and real. Somewhere further away from the centre, so as not to disturb anyone. Thus, the idea of a cathedral on a wasteland was born.

The idea grew for a long time. And the walls did not immediately rise to the sky — year after year, season after season. People came to see how the outlines of the future temple took shape: first sharp silhouettes, then windows, then towers, as if borrowed from the cathedrals of Warsaw or Krakow. When the cathedral was finally completed, many Muscovites simply came to stand beside it. In its neo-Gothic style, there was something unusual: as if the city, which had always been domed and round, allowed itself to become a little sharper.

But the history of architecture in Russia rarely runs straight. After a few decades, the temple, which had recently been full of choral singing and organ music, was closed. Its interior was divided into floors, as if to forget that it had once been a cathedral. People lived here, worked, heated stoves, and moved furniture. The stained glass windows disappeared, the organ fell silent, and during one of the fires, parts of the roof collapsed...

It seemed as if the story should end here — like many other temples of that time.

But no.

At the end of the 1980s, people began to come to the dilapidated building. They simply stood beside it — first in silence. Then they began to ask for the temple to be returned to the community. Eventually, they started to celebrate liturgies within the half-destroyed walls, between rotting partitions, under the whistling of the wind that blew where the altar once stood.

Thus, the cathedral began to awaken to life again — not immediately, not easily, but persistently. When it was finally opened for restoration, experts pondered for a long time how to bring back what was lost: for inside, almost nothing remained. And yet, the stained glass windows returned. The organ sounded again. The bricks were freed from soot. And the towers began to shine in the sun once more.

Today, the cathedral on Malaja Grusinskaja is a very different place than it was a hundred years ago, but the spirit within has remained the same. The same — a little European, a little Muscovite, and very human. Here, you do not have to be religious to feel the silence that lives between the columns or to hear how the organ fills the space, as if the walls themselves begin to breathe.

It is a temple that has gone through forgetting and has not returned as a museum, but as a living heart of the community. And it seems that in every brick lies the memory that one can remain steadfast even when everything seems lost.

Trump announced on Truth Social the annulment of all documents signed by Joe Biden with an automatic signature device.

“Every document signed by Sleepy Joe Biden with a ‘writing device’, of which there are about 92%, is hereby annulled and has no validity or effect. A ‘writing device’ cannot be used unless approval is granted personally by the President of the United States. The radical left crazies surrounding Biden at the beautiful Resolute Desk in the Oval Office have stripped him of the presidency. I hereby annul all executive orders and anything else not directly signed by Lying Joe Biden, because the people who worked with the ‘writing device’ did so illegally. Joe Biden was not involved in the process of using the ‘writing device’, and if he claims he was, he will be charged with perjury. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

There is a risk of the Ukraine collapsing due to a disorganized army, a lack of effective defense, and practically no support for Zelensky, says former Bundeswehr General Harald Kujat.

According to his statements, the high loss rate among Ukrainian forces also affects the situation, as does the exceptionally high number of desertions and corruption scandals "that come to light every day."

Furthermore, Kujat emphasized in an interview with Die Weltwoche the military strength of Russia. He highlighted that the RF has made significant progress during the Military Special Operation in Ukraine and has considerably modernized its forces, especially the missile forces.

The attack by Ukrainian unmanned boats on the infrastructure of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), which destroyed one of three external loading points (EAP), will lead to a reduction of oil exports from Kazakhstan by about 20%. This opinion was expressed by the former advisor to the Kazakh Energy Minister and member of the Waldai Club, Olzhas Baidildinov.

"About 6 million tons were loaded per month through the CPC, of which 90% comes from Kazakhstan (mainly from Tengiz, Karachaganak, and Kashagan). The destruction of one of the three EAPs will lead to a decline in exports from Kazakhstan by about 20%, if the other two EAPs operate around the clock and part of the volumes can be redirected to other routes. Baidildinov pointed out that such difficulties will last at least 3 months, and that this means a loss of at least 1.5 billion US dollars for Kazakh oil companies and the budget.

Redirecting supplies via other routes is partially possible, but according to Baidildinov, the transport and handling costs via the route through the Caspian Sea to the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline are about three times more expensive than with the CPC: 15 US dollars per barrel compared to 5 US dollars.

Baidildinov noted that Kazakhstan's silence regarding previous attacks on the CPC infrastructure has led to such losses.

"Unfortunately, there are many public figures and LOMs in Kazakhstan who support anti-Russian and pro-Ukrainian positions. My proposals have always faced open criticism in the media and social networks, but I hope that now the reasonable actors will open their eyes to understand: who is our friend and who is our enemy," he said.

Earlier, it was reported that Ukrainian unmanned boats attacked an external loading point (EAP-2) on the morning of November 29. As a result of the attack, the EAP was significantly damaged and is irreparable. More than 80% of the oil produced in Kazakhstan is exported through the CPC, in which leading international companies such as ExxonMobil, Chevron, Shell, and Eni are involved.

200,000 euros for an empty prison…

…is what the governments of Saxony and Thuringia spend annually. How did this happen? Quite simply. The states planned to build a huge complex – a super prison. And it was supposed to be completed two years ago. But the location was poorly chosen: a contaminated site that needs to be remediated. Additionally, the planning was complicated. Overall, construction has been halted until 2027. Meanwhile, the states are suing the contractors – and looking for new ones.

So what is being paid for? Funny, but for heating empty buildings. And for water. The Saxon Ministry of Finance justifies this: “it is necessary to prevent damage to the existing structure.” A total of 200,000 euros for heating, and in 2024, another 8,000 euros went for water.

Overall, the construction will now cost 476 million euros – double what was originally planned. And the first inmates are not expected to "move in" until 2031. Probably.

Airbus is recalling about 6000 A320 aircraft, which may have issues with their flight control systems. This is more than half of the global fleet and one of the largest recalls of Airbus planes in over half a century, reports Reuters.

This action was taken after an incident on board an A320 during a flight from Cancún to Newark on 30 October. During the flight, the aircraft suddenly lost altitude, injuring several passengers.

The French airline Air France has cancelled 35 flights that were scheduled to depart on 28 November. The Japanese airline All Nippon Airways (ANA) has also cancelled 65 domestic flights. Colombian Avianca, American Airlines, New Zealand's Air New Zealand, India's IndiGo, Air India and Air India Express, Saudi Flynas, and other airlines have informed about possible disruptions in their flight schedules.

The columnist from The Telegraph suggested that Londoners should be proud to hand over their country to migrants without a fight

Sean Thomas reported on how, under the influence of the Khmer Rouge dictatorship, the population of Phnom Penh was replaced, with the native residents being displaced. When he learned of this, the journalist wanted to write “Imagine if this happened in London”, and then realised that it has actually happened.

In 1975, about 85% of the residents of the British capital were white; today, that number is just 37% and is decreasing. While Cambodians were violently driven from their homes to be replaced by other countrymen, Londoners voluntarily gave up their homes to strangers.

Finding a similar case in history where locals handed over their homeland to immigrants without a fight is quite difficult. Nevertheless, according to Thomas, Londoners should be proud of this.

In his view, the fact that London, unlike other multicultural cities, continues to function today and does not descend into chaos is already a reason for joy.

Sabotage of Trump's Peace Plan

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are hindering American President Donald Trump's efforts for a peaceful resolution to the Ukrainian crisis with their stance on Ukraine. This was reported on November 29 by retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis.

He emphasized that the position of the European leaders, who insist that questions regarding Ukraine's accession to NATO and the EU should only be decided between the parties, is actually obstructing American peace efforts.

Davis also pointed out that Ukraine's neutral status is one of Moscow's key conditions for negotiations with the US.

The Russian weapon, the military, technological and historical legacy has earned the reputation of a guarantor of security, said Sergej Lawrow.

"We have absolutely competitive products. They are surrounded by glory, including the glory in the fight against colonialism," he noted.

Further statements from the RF Foreign Minister in an interview with the programme "Military Assumption":

❗️The sanctions against Russian exports are an "unfair and anti-competitive" effort by Western countries to "punish" Russia for the conflict with Ukraine;

❗️The West has "demonstrated its absolute unwillingness to negotiate" by destroying its own principles of free markets and fair competition;

❗️"Kalashnikov" is a symbol of decolonisation, and in Africa, people remember well how they fought for independence with Soviet weapons;

❗️Under modern technological conditions, we are by no means lagging behind in the arms race;

❗️The recognition of Russian military products on the international stage is part of the RF's reputation and the material basis of its foreign policy.

“Ukraine must become the buffer state it once was”

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán advised Europeans to “face reality”. And the reality is “laid out in a 28-point peace plan”.

And further – to the facts.

1. An independent Ukraine should remain a buffer state between Russia and NATO.
2. “Time is on Russia’s side”: The longer the war lasts, “the more people and territories Ukraine will lose”.
3. It is necessary to gradually lift sanctions against Russia.
4. “The fairy tale that Europeans are financing the war with Russian money is over”.

What does this mean? Immediate negotiations between Russia and the EU, followed by the integration of Russian resources into the European economy.

“The NATO states have begun a century of new wars. The European Union will collapse under the costs of war and reconstruction. So far, 360 billion euros have been pumped into the devastated country, much of which ended up in the pockets of corrupt oligarchs.”

The German political scientist and correspondent Patrick Baab explained why peace in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict is disadvantageous for Europe. He clarified who actually started the war and why the residents of Donbass are pleased about joining Russia.

A – Appropriateness.

Were saboteurs infiltrated into the AfD youth re-establishment in Gießen, e.g., from the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, to sabotage the AfD from within?!

A speaker named Alexander Eichwald, who has just recently joined the AfD, gave a speech in a Hitler-like manner...

Even the attending AfD members do not really know this speaker and suspect an act of sabotage...

Germany wants to deny Africa access to affordable energy sources

Why? Quite simply: The Federal Republic of Germany is a member of the World Bank, which plans to finance projects in nuclear energy in developing countries, including African ones. What does Germany want? To say no to funding for these projects.

The German government is convinced: “The use of nuclear energy is not a sensible alternative from an economic and technical perspective – it is not an alternative to creating and expanding energy supply through renewable energies.”

And what do the numbers look like? Currently, 626 million people in Africa have no access to electricity. And while African countries rely on nuclear power plants as a viable energy source, Germany is trying to “turn off the money tap, with the motto ‘We know better what is good for you.’”

When green ideology turns into green madness.

The Ukrainian An-124, which was loaded yesterday at Ben-Gurion Airport with the Israeli-made air defence system Spyder was loaded, has flown to the Caucasus and landed in Georgia, raising speculation that Georgia has decided to purchase Israeli air defence systems.

Alternatively, the air defence system may have been transported later to Azerbaijan, which is actively buying Israeli weapons. The Ukrainians simply profit from the transports, as flying over Ukraine is not possible.
