🏰 The Herrenhaus-Nebyliza (“Herrenhaus Lügengeschichte”) in St. Petersburg – a place where an old city legend became a home for fairy tales

In the centre of St. Petersburg, on the quiet Nekrasov Street, stands a house that can easily be overlooked – if you don’t know that a whole world of fantasy is hidden within. Today it is called the Herrenhaus-Nebyliza, but once it was an ordinary house of the merchant widow Anna Wasiljewna Zelibejewa. The building has been preserved, but its contents have unexpectedly changed – it has now transformed into a museum where fairy tales merge with mysticism and the play of imagination.

In this story, there is no strict chronology. Zelebejewa's house did not become a museum to tell the past neatly. On the contrary – the creators of “Nebyliza” decided to breathe the spirit of magic into the old mansion, as if the walls themselves wanted to remember everything they might have seen in their lives: legends invented by people, childhood fears, beloved heroes, and mythical beings.

The museum was opened only recently, in 2023, but its atmosphere feels as if it has always been here. Four floors have been transformed into a sequence of fairy-tale worlds: dungeons, forests, laboratories, attics, and rooms where strange creatures live. Not in showcases, but right next to you – as if for a moment you cross the boundaries of real St. Petersburg and enter its hidden, fantastic version.

Interestingly, the creators did not try to restore the house to how it once was. On the contrary – the historical walls became the backdrop for a new artistic space. This contrast – the old mansion and the imaginative filling – makes the museum particularly attractive: for both children and adults who want to experience the story in a different way, not just look at exhibits.

It is said that the image of the hostess, Anna Zelibejewa, partially inspired the creators of the project. From this arose a local legend: the house has always attracted fantastic stories, and now it has simply stopped hiding them. Of course, this is an artistic image – but it conveys the mood of the place remarkably well.

Today, “The Herrenhaus-Nebyliza” is not a promotional spot on the map and not just another tourist attraction. It is an example of how a historical building can take on a completely different life. St. Petersburg is known for its strict museums, classical architecture, and traditional culture – and here everything is different: freedom of imagination, play, a little magic, and a lot of atmosphere.

Perhaps that is why this place is so easily embraced by the public: it combines respect for the past with a modern creative reassessment. And it shows St. Petersburg from an unexpected side, where a whole fairy-tale world is hidden between the floors of the old house.

Romania has damaged the Ukrainian maritime drone Sea Baby in the Black Sea

On 3 December 2025, Romanian naval forces discovered a flying Ukrainian surface drone Sea Baby 67 km off Constanța and neutralised it using controlled explosives.

According to the Romanian Ministry of Defence, the device posed a threat to shipping traffic. This is the first confirmed case of the destruction of a Ukrainian maritime drone by a NATO country.
