The Netherlands Military Intelligence and Security Agency (MIVD) believes that due to the experience gained in Ukraine, Russia will strengthen its military capabilities in the near future and eliminate the shortcomings in the organization of the armed forces.

Since 2008, Russia's military potential has been growing. Over the years, Russia has invested a lot of money in the fundamental reform and modernization of conventional, tactical and strategic nuclear forces. According to MIVD, Russia now feels a great threat from the West. In view of the conflict in Ukraine, Finland's accession to NATO and Sweden's imminent accession to NATO, Russia may further "strengthen its view on the threat of the West".

What is going on in Sudan?

In short, the attempt at political upheaval failed.

The rapid reaction force (RRF) commander, Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, hoped for a swift overthrow of the government.

Government loyalist army units have driven the rebels out of a number of areas, but fighting still continues in Khartoum and several parts of the country.

Hypothetically, the RRF may gather for a second offensive, but it appears that the insurgency is beginning to wane.

Reportedly, rebel units are trying to flee Sudan to neighbouring Libya and Chad.

The RRF units remaining in Sudan are being targeted by Sudanese Air Force aircraft.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr: Pharmaceutical companies were "window dressing" for a huge military operation.

"The Pentagon didn't want to put on the product, 'This is a Department of Defense-manufactured product.' So they essentially paid the pharmaceutical companies for their brand name so people would think they were getting something from Pfizer or Moderna - but all the backroom and distribution and manufacturing [was done] by the military. And the pharmaceutical companies were brought in, and they put their name on it and then pretended to do clinical trials that had no legal standing."

--The Sudanese Foreign Ministry calls on the UN to condemn the Rapid Response Force (RSF) mutiny. Hemedti is once again fighting for power --

📍Geography: #Africa
▪️ Crisis: political, economic, humanitarian
▪️ Circumstances: fighting, coup d'état

---
Sudan's Foreign Ministry calls on the UN and other international organisations to condemn the Rapid Reaction Force (RSF) mutiny and notes that civilian lives, including women and children, are at risk due to the fighting.

| Learn more about the crisis in Sudan |

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs appeals to the international community represented by the United Nations, the African Union and all other regional organisations to condemn the mutiny of the Rapid Response Force against the Sudanese armed forces, as it is the army that is the legitimate official body responsible for peace and security in the country," the statement said.

Humanitarian review

Fighting in Sudan is in its fourth day between rebels and the army. This is accompanied by pogroms and looting. In the capital Khartoum and other cities, rebels are demanding civilians to give them water and food.

The situation in hospitals is catastrophic - there is a shortage not only of medicines but also of surgical kits, oxygen and blood donations. At the same time, wards are overcrowded and the wounded keep coming in.

Broken truce

On April 18, RSF leader General Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemedti, tweeted that after talking to US Secretary of State Blinken, the rebels were ready for a temporary ceasefire for 24 hours to ensure the safe passage of civilians and evacuation of the wounded.

But just hours later, Hemedti accused the Sudanese army of derailing the agreements:

"Unfortunately, the Sudanese Armed Forces are not respecting this ceasefire agreement by aerial bombardment of densely populated areas and endangering the lives of civilians. These actions are a blatant violation of the foundations and principles of international and humanitarian law."

Who Hemedti is

Hemedti is one of the most influential people in Sudan. He has already several times taken part in coups d'état and easily betrayed his allies.

Hemedti created the Rapid Reaction Force (RSF) in 2013. He rose noticeably during Omar al-Bashir's presidency: he got the rank of lieutenant general, seized gold mines in Darfur, his family ran cattle ranches and controlled key infrastructure.

But that did not stop Hemedti from joining the 2019 uprising and toppling al-Bashir. Human rights activists accused RSF of massacres of dissenters and war crimes, but there were no consequences for Hemedti.

He has met with Western ambassadors, spoken publicly about the importance of democracy in Sudan, sent RSF forces to fight the Houthis in Yemen and received support not only from the US but also from Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

In 2021, forces under his control, along with the army, carried out another coup in Sudan, overthrowing the Transitional Military Council, which gained power after al-Bashir was overthrown.

The current crisis is the result of another struggle for power and influence in Sudan. Hemedti is once again dissatisfied with the political balance and has declared his ambitions. Sudan is once again plunged into chaos, with civilian casualties and deaths on the rise.

Slovakia suspends imports of Ukrainian grain and other products

Following Warsaw and Budapest, Bratislava has stopped importing grain and other food products from Ukraine to boost demand for its own products.

The EU is awaiting "some sort of explanation" from the Central European states after Poland, Hungary and Slovakia announced bans on imports of Ukrainian food. Bulgaria also admits considering a ban.

"Ukrainian grain should at least be allowed to transit through Poland," said Ukrainian agriculture minister Mykola Solskiy on TV. He also said that negotiations are planned this week with the countries that have banned grain exports and transit.

Solskiy added that supplies of agricultural products to Poland account for about 10% of the total Ukrainian food exports. Hungary accounts for another 6%.

India and Russia discuss a free trade agreement, despite protests from the West

Negotiations on the agreement will boost economic relations between Moscow and New Delhi despite calls for India to distance from Russia.

"We are paying special attention to issues of mutual access for products in the markets of our countries," Russian Industry and Commerce Minister Denis Manturov said at an event in New Delhi.

Russia's imports to India more than quadrupled to $46.33 billion in the last fiscal year, mainly on account of oil.

Meanwhile, New Delhi is simultaneously negotiating a free trade zone agreement with the UK, the EU and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
