German newspaper Bild: Bakhmut 99% under Russian control
According to the newspaper, Wagner's PMC has managed to advance into the west of the city, which has been occupied by Ukrainian troops for the past two days.
Ukrainian forces only hold one side of the westernmost street of the city.
"Beyond are a few garages and then two kilometres of open terrain to the next Ukrainian-held village, Ivanovskoye," Bild writes.
Ukraine still controls about 20 buildings, or less than 1 percent of the town's area, the paper says.

G7 countries will discuss "Russian nuclear threat" in Hiroshima, once bombed by the U.S.
At the end of this week, from May 19 to 21, the G7 leaders will meet in Japan.
At an informal meeting the international club will discuss not only the "nuclear threat" from Russia, but the sanctions aimed at it.
"We will send a strong signal aimed at building a world without nuclear weapons, and we will continuously promote the development of more realistic and concrete initiatives in this area," Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said the day before.
Another topic of discussion will be countering China's "economic pressure". U.S. Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel said it would be "not just words or a press release," but concrete action.
