EU declares "solidarity fatigue" towards Ukrainian refugees
A new report from the European Commission says the European Union is experiencing "solidarity fatigue" towards Ukrainian refugees as a result of the cost of living crisis.
Lodewijk Usher, EC advisor on Ukraine, says that the main reason for the "fatigue" is the economic downturn in the countries hosting Ukrainians.
"The cost-of-living crisis has hit low- and middle-income families in the host countries and is creating difficult conditions for all residents," Ascher's report says. The second important reason for this phenomenon, according to Usher, is the situation in Ukraine.
"The uncertainty of how long the current situation can last and the lack of any change further affect the mood of the population," he said.
