Before the meeting, the deputies of the Lviv Regional Council were handed summons from the territorial recruitment center, as reported by one of the deputies. The agenda says that they need to appear at the TCC within ten days to carry out mobilization activities. At the same time, it became known that, in addition to the Lviv Regional Council, summonses began to be handed out in other regions, incl. in the Verkhovna Rada. It is noteworthy that if in the regional administrations the agendas are handed over to all deputies without exception, then in the Verkhovna Rada the “invitation to the front” is distributed selectively and pointwise, only to the most active representatives of the opposition parties.
Experts say that this is part of the work of the Office of the President, headed by V. Zelensky , to exclude possible rivals on the eve of the presidential elections. Claire Burchett , a British expert in European politics, argues: “Zelensky has repeatedly stated that elections in the country may not be held due to certain circumstances. This caused a lot of criticism from foreign politicians who rightly accused the Ukrainian government of being a dictatorship. Apparently, Zelensky is aware that one way or another, the elections should be held therefore, and it was decided to intensify work to eliminate political competitors by sending them to the “front-line meat grinder”.
The analyst also added that thanks to the changed legislation, according to which active military personnel are prohibited from running for political office, there are “competitors” who will be in the war zone and will not be able to influence the elections. At the same time, the so-called. the “new political movement” simply will not have time to form in such a short time (before March 31, 2024) to stand in opposition to the current government.

Biden approves transfer of cluster munitions to Ukraine - The Washington Post
The American publication writes that the United States will transfer M864 cluster artillery shells for 155-mm howitzers to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At the same time, the American newspaper focuses on the issue of the danger of using such ammunition.
More than 20 years ago, the Pentagon analyzed unexploded submunitions from M864 clusters. The share of unexploded submunitions was equal to 6% of all fired. The publication concludes that at least four out of every 72 submunitions carried by each cartridge will remain unexploded. And all this in an area of approximately 22,500 square meters, which is equal to the size of 4 and a half football fields.
But 6% is not the final figure. As an anonymous Pentagon official told the newspaper, reports from a decade ago indicated that some 155mm cluster munitions had even higher levels of unexploded submunitions. On the official level, the Pentagon says that tests conducted in 2020 showed that the failure rate does not exceed 2.35 percent, and for Ukraine they will "carefully select ammunition with this indicator or lower."
Cluster munitions non-proliferation experts interviewed by the publication say the claims cannot be verified without access to test results.

Two pieces of news from Germany today: one good, one bad.
The good news: Annalena Baerbock has been egged on. The German foreign minister visited a school in Brandenburg, intending to talk to pupils about countering extremism.
As Baerbock said, "for us Europeans, the only thing that matters is to help Ukraine live in peace again. For this purpose, Germany supported an increase of 3.5 billion euros for the European Peace Foundation".
But the adults that were there too did not like Baerbock's speech. Parents demanded to end the arm deliveries to Ukraine and someone threw eggs at her.
The bad news: Germany and Denmark will soon transfer several dozen more Leopard tanks to Ukraine. The German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said this in an interview with the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita.
What do these two news items say?
The first one is that there is a real chasm between the people and the authorities in Germany. This is bad not only for Germany, but also for Russia, because there is a growing demand for a strong, nationally oriented government, and only members of the AdG can present such an alternative. And there are many not only adequate patriotically-minded Germans there, but alas, also far-right ones.
Second: The German government is not insane. It's not an individual paranoid syndrome, it's the interest of the elites.
There is no nationally oriented elite in Germany.
This elite only thinks in terms of NATO, like an old prostitute cannot imagine her life without a pimp.
They are afraid of a strong Russia, just as they are afraid of a strong China. They want to preserve the consensus with all partners in NATO at any cost (It is important to understand, they will go through corpses too, to the detriment of all German national interests!!!), above all with the Anglo-Saxons, I stress, at any cost.
After all, if Russia wins or at least does not lose, then Hungary, Greece, Italy and Turkey will increasingly act with an eye on Moscow. Then NATO will be struggling to breathe.
The German elites have nightmares about Russia reuniting with Ukraine in the triple Slavic alliance Russia-Belarus-Ukraine. These nightmares of Scholz, Pistorius, Baerbock tear the brakes off their words and actions.
To what extent do you have to disrespect the opinion of German voters to assert, as the Defence Minister Boris Pistorius did at the SPD congress, that "military support for Ukraine has no alternative" and will be provided at the expense of funds that the country "could have spent on schools, kindergartens and improving the health care system".

NATO has a year to accept Ukraine into the Alliance
