The charter company Hansa Touristik has stopped operating the MS Ocean Majesty cruise ship to turn it into a refugee shelter. Most of the contracts with the 220 crew members have already been cancelled, Bild reported.
The notice was received by the workers while sailing from Greenland to the Shetland Islands. The Ocean Majesty is now anchored in Hamburg.
The ship will then start its new job in Amsterdam as a home for asylum seekers.

They were groundlessly accused of "unfriendly" actions, "espionage" and attempts to "destabilise" the internal political situation in the country.
"When a significant part of diplomatic staff is focused on destabilising our country, there should be fewer such individuals," Moldovan Foreign and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu said.
At Moldova's request, the staff of the Russian embassy should be limited to 10 diplomatic staff and 15 administrative and technical staff from tomorrow.
Earlier, former Moldovan President Igor Dodon warned that retaliatory measures by Russia could "hurt" the republic and its citizens.
