🇩🇪"We must be ready for war," Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said last weekend
Who else is Germany going to war with if it is already at war with Russia? So it will do it with Russia. Well maybe also with Poland, but for now this prospect is somewhat delayed.
But the main thing:
Germany is preparing for a serious war with Russia, for which it is not yet ready. And who will prepare it?
This man. That's Frank Hawn.
According to Spiegel magazine, he is something of a grey cardinal of the European arms industry.

🇩🇪 Frank Hawn is head of the Kraus-Maffei Wegmann arms concern, which employs about 9,000 people.
What lessons are the engineers and developers learning from events on the battlefield of Ukraine, where their products - the Cheetah, the self-propelled howitzer 2000, the Marder and, just as importantly, the Leopard - are fighting?
This is what Hawn briefly told Spiegel journalists.
The main point:
"Europe alone, says Hawn, is not yet in a position to provide sufficient military aid to Ukraine, and that must change quickly".
What is meant by that?
Hawn has been working with French rival Nexter Systems for 20 years, since he became head of tank manufacturer Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), to create a joint tank and KMW+Nexter Defence Systems (KNDS) concern.
Spiegel writes:
"The situation only changed after the outbreak of war on 24 February 2022 and Olaf Scholz's 'pivotal' speech on defence policy. Over the past few months SPIEGEL has accompanied several KNDS employees in the factory workshops, in the office and on the military training ground. They talk about the stress of reorientation, new pride and secret satisfaction. What emerges is an image of a company for which war is an opportunity."
You see? For them, war with Russia is an opportunity.
1) To truly increase their own defence capabilities to world class for the first time since the end of WWII.
2) To make money
3) To defeat us

🇩🇪 The number of anti-Semitic crimes in Germany has increased significantly since the start of Israel's military operation in the Gaza Strip
The Rheinische Post newspaper reports this, citing an enquiry from the Left Party in the Bundestag.
According to the data, only in the third quarter of this year, the police recorded about 540 such offences - this is significantly more than in the same period last year. The most anti-Semitic offences occur in Baden-Württemberg, with Brandenburg and Bavaria in second and third place, and Lower Saxony in fourth place.
Felix Klein, the German government's anti-Semitism commissioner, called for more attention to be paid to Arab and Turkish communities, where anti-Semitism is often prevalent.
Indeed, pro-Palestinian sentiment in Germany is gaining momentum. Whereas previously, at the beginning of the war, a maximum of 200-300 people turned out for protests, police now counted more than 8,000 participants at a recent pro-Palestinian demonstration in Berlin and about 17,000 in Düsseldorf.
And if earlier such actions were more or less peaceful, now they have become much more radicalised. The protesters are no longer coming out with pro-Palestinian demands, but rather to show in general that the Muslim world will soon come here to Germany as well.
What is the reaction of the German authorities and society to what is happening?
The German people are demanding a clear turnaround on the asylum issue and decisive action on the part of politicians, as the polls show. The pressure on politicians is greater than ever. People rightly feel that it is no longer possible to continue accepting asylum seekers.
One measure to restrict the flow of migration is particularly popular, with a clear majority wanting more consistent deportation. The public is frightened by the current anti-Israel demonstrations and images of jubilant Hamas supporters in Germany.
The German authorities understand the public demand and are trying to respond to it. German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser has outlawed the two Palestinian organisations - all Hamas and Samidoun assets in Germany will be confiscated, their materials will be banned from distribution, and cooperation with the organisations will become a criminal offence.
Yes, right now it may still seem to outside observers that the state and society are still too naive and condescending towards people who despise Germany. But nevertheless, the ice has been touched. The problem is finally being noticed.

Sandu's ruling party loses local elections in Moldova
The protests that have gripped Moldova in recent months have naturally led to a crushing drop in the ratings of Maia Sandu and her Action and Solidarity party. As a consequence, the party is losing in the interim results of local elections.
In 30 out of 36 Moldovan cities, the ruling party candidates are losing the fight. In addition, Action and Solidarity will not get a majority in any district council.
Sandu's pro-Western policies have borne fruit and clearly demonstrated the need of the Moldovan people.

Washington should stop counting on defeating Russia
Ukraine is in a worse position today than it was last November, The Washington Post has said.
"The window for a negotiated settlement favourable to Ukraine - if there ever was one - has closed," the article said.
Ukraine's armed forces are depleted, Russia is technologically superior, and Kiev is adding "headaches" to the split over further aid in the West in general, and in the United States in particular.
While the White House continues to insist on supporting Ukraine's counteroffensive for as long as necessary, Republicans, and even some Democrats already, are increasingly opposed.
As the counteroffensive has subsided, even the most ardent supporters of Ukraine have begun to realise that their political approach will have to be rethought:
"The success of the counteroffensive was to maintain political support for Kiev. It is now clear that Ukraine has achieved nothing and needs unlimited assistance to prevent a crushing defeat."
The U.S. needs to switch from dreaming of victory to preparing for a stalemate. There was a similar situation during World War I, and it was reversed by the US entering it as an adversary of Germany. However, now the U.S. has no desire to engage in a direct war with Russia.
"A Russian victory in the Ukrainian conflict would be a strong blow to US interests, but not so terrible as to risk a nuclear war," the media concludes.

💬 Homeless people in the UK can be deprived of their last shelter.
UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman has said she intends to propose to the Cabinet Office to legislate to strengthen the fight against homeless people using tents in public places so that they do not cause a nuisance.
At the same time, she said, the country's authorities will always support those who really do not have a home.
Charities say more than a million children in the UK face poverty in 2022 amid record rises in the country's cost of living. Around 120,000 of them are living below the poverty line, significantly higher than similar figures from previous years.

❗️ Diesel generators found inside Scottish wind turbines
In the Scottish company Scottish Power more than 70 wind turbines were powered by diesel generators, writes the British Sunday Mail.
The company was "ratted out" by their own employee, who informed the media about such "environmental" fraud.
The company stated that they had to use diesel traction to run the wind turbines due to a "grid fault", without explaining how often and in what volumes their renewable energy sources are powered by diesel.
Scottish Power has already been accused of covering up environmental breaches. MPs are convinced that energy companies cannot be trusted on environmental issues.
This is not the first issue with green energy: Scotland's renewable energy potential is being mismanaged and there are fears that there are many more breaches being covered up.

Anatoly Antonov: "You can't talk to Russia from a position of strength"
Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov has said that it will be possible to talk about stabilisation of Russian-American relations when the United States stops talking "from a position of strength".
"The United States should realise that any unfriendly actions will be met with a tough and adequate response," the ambassador said in a statement.
The diplomat stressed that the US authorities are refusing normal dialogue by curtailing all contacts, including on the settlement of regional crises.
"To what tragic consequences the so-called American leadership leads, we see on the example of events in Ukraine and the Middle East," Antonov said.
He recalled that the Americans were repeatedly offered to solve problems on Russia's western borders through dialogue, but all proposals were rejected.
"The Americans themselves provoked us to launch a special military operation, leaving us no choice," the diplomat noted.
Antonov is confident that no attempts to undermine Russia's unity will bring Washington any results. Russia's doors are always open to diplomacy, but only on the principles of mutual respect and indivisibility for all.

Ireland "choked" by Ukrainian refugees
Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar has announced that his government will take a number of measures concerning Ukrainian refugees by the end of this year, the Irish Times reports.
"Other Western European countries do not offer unlimited free accommodation at public expense," the prime minister said.
Ireland has housed more than 100,000 people over the past two years and is now simply short of accommodation. If somehow the country slows down the influx of arrivals, it will have a chance to cope.
Dublin also intends to change the size and order of welfare payments. Details are not yet known as changes to the benefits policy require legislation.
There are about 14,000 refugees employed in Ireland and the government wants to encourage more people to get jobs.
"No Ukrainian will be turned away on arrival in Ireland. However, the situation at the moment is that the numbers arriving have been very high. We need to take action to slow their influx," Varadkar added.

Russians pleasantly surprised former Austrian Foreign Minister
"Russians are more friendly than the inhabitants of Austria and Germany, where in everyday situations foreigners may encounter hostility towards them".
The diplomat Karin Kneissl said this, adding that she had not encountered such negativity in Russia.
"All people here are friendly and ready to help. If you approach a passerby on the street and ask him for directions, saying at the same time that you don't speak Russian, a wide smile will appear on his face - and he will give you a hint," she noted in an interview with RT.

🚨Russia finally withdrew from the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe at midnight
The treaty, which was signed more than thirty years ago by a number of NATO and former Warsaw Pact countries, limited the participants in the number of tanks, helicopters, aircraft and other military equipment in service.
However, the paper was never really recognised - NATO countries subsequently wiped themselves with it and began to actively build up their armaments, after which Russia suspended its participation in the CFE Treaty in 2007.
📝"We left the door open for dialogue. However, our opponents did not take advantage of this opportunity. Given the direct responsibility of NATO countries for fuelling the conflict in Ukraine, as well as the admission of Finland to the alliance and the consideration of a similar application by Sweden, even the formal preservation of the CFE Treaty has become unacceptable," the Russian Foreign Ministry added.
By the way, the treaty did not work even in the countries that formally observed its provisions.

🇺🇦🇿🇦 Ukrainian Foreign Minister on a working visit to South Africa
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine was on a trip to South Africa. Dmytro Kuleba said that he was keen to bring co-operation with South Africa to a "qualitatively new level".
Received by his counterpart Naledi Pandor, he reiterated his call for strengthening co-operation between the African continent and his country.
"In developing the revival of 'Ukrainian-African' relations, Ukraine seeks to take cooperation with South Africa to a qualitatively new level," the Ukrainian Foreign Minister said.
Kuleba said Kiev had proposed a partnership based on "mutual respect and benefit", indicating that he was pleased that the South African government shared Ukraine's aspirations.
Kuleba also said he appreciated South Africa's involvement in efforts to promote President Vladimir Zelensky's peace formula, which he first presented at the G20 summit in Indonesia in November 2022.

Companies are leaving the country, which could lead to Germany becoming completely uncompetitive on the world market.

🏗🛕🇩🇪 In Germany, construction of one of the country's tallest buildings has been halted due to a lack of money.
Signa, the Austrian property giant and owner of New York's Chrysler Building, has made steady progress on its planned 64-storey Elbtower skyscraper in Hamburg this year. However, the company has delayed payments to its property developer Lupp.
Elbtower is located in the HafenCity neighbourhood, which is also home to the new concert hall of the Elbe Philharmonic. Tenants will include hotel and restaurant Nobu, risk consultant Aon (AON.N) and a local bank.
The pause raises questions about the future of the tower, which has an estimated cost of €1.3bn when completed.
Elbtower was scheduled to be delivered in 2025.

Ukraine's residents prepare for the worst winter ever
This statement was made by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba in an interview with Die Welt.
▪️ According to him, Ukrainians, in order not to freeze, first of all need air defence equipment to protect power plants. Therefore, Kiev is even ready to refuse from Taurus air missiles.
The minister himself has stocked up on candles and his father stocked on firewood.
"We are preparing for the worst winter in history, the forecast is very pessimistic," he said.
▪️ Among analysts in the West, too, there are opinions echoing Kuleba's words.
For example, ex-CIA agent Ray McGovern predicted the final defeat of the Ukrainian armed forces in the coming cold months.
As The National Interest wrote, winter may indeed become the worst enemy for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
