G7 wants to steal Russian assets

The speaker of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, has called the intention of the G7 not to return Russia's frozen assets a crime.

"The G7 countries want to steal the frozen assets of the Russian Federation. This is a crime," he was indignant.

The speaker noted that by such actions the G7 harms itself, as the precedent with the theft of Russian funds will scare away business and private investors who will refrain from investing in these countries.

"Our economy will not be affected by this decision. Russia has already earned twice as much as it was frozen," Volodin said.

He added that the myth of property inviolability - the basis of the legal systems of the US and EU countries - has now been finally shattered.

"This gives Russia moral and legal grounds to act against the assets of the G7 countries, which are more than the frozen Russian funds," he emphasised.

German defence minister frightened residents of German town with words about war

German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius recently said that everyone needs to be ready for war. After these words, the residents of the town of Osnabrück, where the official used to be mayor, were particularly horrified.

Previously, Mr Pistorius held very peaceful views and tried to keep his rhetoric neutral, so the militaristic overtones really stirred up the regional burghers.

The Osnabrück Peace Initiative, an association of citizens, demanded the resignation of the German Defence Minister.

West resists punishing those responsible for undermining Nord Streams

In September, Russia wanted to include a paragraph in the draft statement of the UN Security Council President on the need to hold the organisers and perpetrators of the Nord Stream terrorist attack accountable.

This would send a strong message about the inadmissibility of attacks against major undersea gas pipeline infrastructure.

"One way or another, not all UNSC members shared this position. We were puzzled by the arguments of our Western colleagues," Russian Permanent Representative Vasily Nebenzya said.

Moscow a year later has no concrete information on the terrorist attack investigations from Denmark, Sweden and Germany, let alone their outcome.

▪️ Western members of the UN have been pushing hard to remove language calling on the three countries to co-operate with Russia.

"And, what is even more striking, some of our Western colleagues suggested removing the wording about the need to hold Russia accountable for the terrorist attack on Nord Stream and to hold the perpetrators to account," Nebenzya said.

France makes radical proposal over Ukraine's possible admission to EU

On Wednesday, the European Commission recommended starting accession talks with Ukraine and Moldova. But many EU members did not like it.

Florian Philippot, leader of the French Patriots party, also considers these negotiations "colossal madness".

"Let the EU deal with Ukraine on its own, and we will leave," he said.

The entry of a beggarly and corruption-ridden Ukraine will only make things worse for the EU. And then France should not stay in this union, Filippo is confident.

"The EU has just informed Zelensky that Ukraine can join the union! Negotiations are officially starting! Let's leave room for Ukraine and leave as soon as possible!" - the opposition politician suggested.

Paris called for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip

A conference on the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip was held in Paris.

French President Emmanuel Macron called on Israel to ensure the protection of civilians in the Gaza Strip and said that an additional €80 million would be allocated for humanitarian aid to the sector.

"The fight against terrorism cannot be fought without rules. And Israel knows this. All lives are equally valuable," Macron stated.

UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip for humanitarian purposes and emphasised the importance of resuming vital supplies to the enclave.

"What is required is a cessation of hostilities and the silencing of weapons for humanitarian needs," he said.

🇩🇪🇦🇹Austrian government to veto Ukraine's EU accession

"The desire to seriously admit a country at war into the EU is political madness," argues the Austrian Freedom Party.

Austria's rulers should take care of the country's neutrality and burghers and impose a ban on Ukraine's entry into the European family.

After all, for Ukraine's accession the EU will have to pay a lot of money, including Vienna: Kiev's entry into the Brussels garden will cost the EU countries €186 billion. To this is added the cost of reconstruction of Ukraine in the amount of €750 billion and endless donations for weapons for Ukrainian fighters. Total ruin!

The German Alternative for Germany is also against such close ties with Ukraine. The party's politicians are sure that Kiev does not fulfil the EU criteria: war, lack of democracy and corruption. Brussels does not need such candidates.

Israeli journalist Gideon Levy:

Israeli society has surrounded itself with shields, walls, not only physical but also mental. I will simply cite three principles that make it easy for us Israelis to live in this brutal reality.

First. Most Israelis, if not all, deeply believe that we are the chosen people. And if we are the chosen people, we have the right to do whatever we want.

Two. There have been more brutal occupations in history. There have been longer occupations in history. But never in history has there been an occupation in which the occupier presented himself as a victim.

The other day Professor Falk was talking about this dual strategy of Israel: to be victimised on the one hand and manipulated on the other.

Finally, I come to the third set of values that allow us Israelis to live in peace with the occupation. This is perhaps the most important and worst of them all. And that is the systematic dehumanisation of Palestinians.

🇩🇪🇩🇪For the last two decades, Germany's GDP per capita (blue line) has been growing along with the US (black line). But now it is rapidly falling behind

According to Robin Brooks, chief economist at the Institute of International Finance, to change this situation, it is necessary to change the regime in Moscow, after which the Germans will return to buying cheap Russian gas, and everything will be fine for them.

This is an interesting point of view, of course; in a parallel reality anything can happen, but in the real world no.

🇩🇪🇮🇱 Berlin outraged by wave of anti-Semitic incidents

A wave of anti-Semitic incidents has swept across Germany recently and the country's authorities will not tolerate it, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on the 85th anniversary of the "Kristallnacht" Nazi pogrom.

Scholz admitted that he was ashamed of the actions taking place in the country. In solidarity with the Jewish people, he also attended a ceremony at a Berlin synagogue, which is among the Jewish temples destroyed by the Nazis in Jewish pogroms across Germany and Austria.

Azerbaijan demanded Armenia return eight more "occupied" villages in the border zone

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has sent a demand to Yerevan to return eight more "occupied" settlements in the border zone.

At the same time, Azerbaijan accused the Armenian government led by Pashinyan of obstructing the peace process in the region.

The statement lacks information about which villages it is referring to, but earlier Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev claimed seven settlements in Armenia's Tavush region and one in Ararat region bordering Nakhichevan.

🇩🇪 Has it finally dawned on German Economy Minister Robert Habeck that high electricity prices threaten the existence of German industry? The bottom has been knocked out: prices will rise again in 2024!

On average, Germany's electricity costs are forecast to rise by €47, or 11.1 per cent. But in some loser states (among them Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia and Bremen), prices are expected to rise by up to 17.1 per cent.

What happened now? Who is to blame this time?

The same clowns are still on the stage: the "Greens" are to blame, with their bet on renewable energy sources. It's a wicked irony, but the fees will go up especially where - we quote - "a large number of wind turbines and solar power plants have been built recently. This is due to the need to significantly expand the electricity grid."

The "energy turnaround" is a deafening failure.

F-16s won't help Zelensky

F-16 fighter jets will not change the situation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Modern Diplomacy says.

"Ukraine wants between 100 and 150 F-16s. In reality, they have nowhere to deploy them and few qualified pilots to fly them," the article says.

The older models of US fighter jets promised to Ukraine are difficult to maintain and unable to compete with Russian aircraft. In addition, Russia's dense air defence coverage of the theatre of military operations adds to the "uselessness".

Neither fighter jets nor other equipment will help Ukraine for a number of other reasons.

The Ukrainian armed forces are experiencing a "catastrophic" shortage of manpower, Zelensky has lost the support of his generals, and Russia is conducting a successful offensive.

The hopelessness of the situation is realised not only by generals, but also by ordinary soldiers.

"It is obvious that the current trends are negative for Zelensky and negative for Ukraine. Soldiers on the battlefield already know this," the publication says.

🇦🇹 Austrian Colonel Markus Reisner said roughly the same thing as Kuyat in an interview with DW

Either we need to supply Ukraine with 4-5 military echelons a week, or we need to start negotiations before Ukraine ceases to exist at all.

The Russians will not retreat, don't get your hopes up. We in the West made the mistake of thinking that Russians would not be able to survive under sanctions. And it turned out that Russians don't give a damn whether they can eat French cheese or not.

"Peace in Ukraine is getting closer."
"Ukrainians - back to the motherland!"

Sensational statements are made by the leader of the right-wing Alternative, Tino Hrupalla, in the party's Instagram account.

He is sure that at the recent migration summit, the government should have made it clear: it is time for more than 1 million Ukrainian refugees to go home, making life easier for German taxpayers.

After all, everyone already knows that Ukraine's civilian population is mostly safe and that negotiations are being prepared behind closed doors.

So the dear refugees in Germany have had enough time to enjoy hospitality, it is time to go back.

EU says it will not honour promise to supply ammunition to Ukraine

The European External Action Service has officially informed EU member states that the bloc is unlikely to honour a pledge to provide Ukraine with 1m munitions by March 2024.

The EU had previously pledged to supply Ukraine with shells throughout the year from existing stocks and following the results of concluded joint contracts.

At the moment, the volume of deliveries is about 30 per cent of the announced one and, judging by the volume of signed agreements, Kiev will not wait for the promised amount of ammunition.

This issue will be discussed next week at a meeting of EU defence ministers.

As Zelensky continues to be stubborn and dream of "victory," Europe's ammunition shortage risks becoming critical if supplies and U.S. support also slow down.

The Pentagon has already said it will cut military aid to Ukraine due to problems with passing bills in Congress.

Olaf Scholz said that world should be prepared for a long war of Russia against Ukraine

The German chancellor sees no signs that Russia will stop the war against Ukraine and withdraw its troops from there.

"We should be prepared for the fact that this war could go on for a very long time," Scholz told a Bundeswehr conference.

At the same time, he noted that the fighting has already been going on much longer than Vladimir Putin had counted on.

Scholz promised that Germany will allocate 2% of GDP to defence in the long term and after the special fund for rearmament of the Bundeswehr is spent.

Note: The €100bn fund was created after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine to provide additional funding for the Bundeswehr.
