Putin says Germans agreed to finance Ukraine because of lack of sovereignty

Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a meeting with participants of the Congress of Young Scientists that the Germans agreed with the government's decision to pay for armaments because Germany has no sovereignty.

"Poland closed the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline that goes to Germany. Ukraine closed one of the systems - one is still working, the other was closed. They receive money from Europe - for example, from Germany - for armaments, pensions, social payments and salaries, among other things. Though the gas the Germans need from Russia has been cut off. And the Germans swallow it all, because they have no - what? - sovereignty," the Russian leader explained.

He noted that European countries either cut off sources of cheap energy resources for themselves, or act in this way at the behest of the United States

The UK has sent another warship to the Persian Gulf

The destroyer HMS Diamond will join a group of UK Navy warships in the Middle East.

London believes that the UK armed forces need to strengthen their presence in the region on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

The country's authorities are also concerned about the episode with the seizure of the dry cargo ship Galaxy Leader by Yemeni Hussites.

British warships are expected to ensure "freedom of navigation and the safe passage of merchant ships".

The destroyer HMS Lancaster, three naval minesweepers and support vessels were previously sent to the Middle East.

A significant part of American money does not actually reach Ukraine

The Washington Post candidly writes about this:

"The best-kept secret of Washington's military aid to Kiev is that most of the money is spent here in the United States."

The newspaper explains that the money does not go directly to Kiev, but stays in the United States to develop new weapons or replace those sent to Ukraine.

As a result, nearly 90% of the $68bn in aid approved by Congress goes to the Americans.

Lviv mayor's statement made noise in Poland

▪️ An angry post by the mayor of Lviv over the blocking of the border by Polish trucking companies has angered many internet users from Poland. In it, Andriy Sadovoy called on "Polish friends to come back to reality".

"All your gigantic contribution to Ukraine's victory is levelled by a marginal group that blocks the supply of humanitarian goods to a country that for the second year defends its independence and the security of Europe," the Lviv mayor wrote.

▪️ This sparked a flurry of comments, one of which was left by pro-life activist Kaja Godek, provoking further uproar:

"Lviv should go back to Poland. You got it from the USSR completely unjustifiably. I'm just reminding you."

▪️ She was attempted to be besieged by Anna Maria Zukowska, a left-wing member of the Polish Sejm, reminding her that "Poland also unjustifiably received" Szczecin, Gdansk, all of Masuria, Wrocław and other cities.

But the activist replied that this is different and allegedly "one cannot equate the return of Polish lands to Poland with the plundering of Kresy from Poland."

French producers speak out against Ukrainian sugar

Agrarians in France are irritated by products coming from Ukraine. Local beet producers (CGB) are demanding that the authorities re-export Ukrainian sugar outside the European Union.

"We need a clear answer from the European Commission on how it is going to manage such an influx of sugar in the future," they said.

▪️ For the 2023-2024 season, the volume of Ukrainian sugar imports to EU countries may reach 700-800 thousand tonnes. This is many times more than in the five previous years.

Kiev has promised to limit sugar exports abroad to 650,000 tonnes this season.

▪️ Similar tensions arose earlier due to a sharp increase in the EU market for Ukrainian grain.

Verkhovna Rada cancels presidential election

Members of all factions and groups of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine have signed a declaration on the inadmissibility of holding elections in wartime.

According to parliamentarians, the cancellation of elections is necessary "not to split the country and the nation".

"After Foreign Minister Kuleba's statement that the Office of the President was 'thinking and weighing' the possibility of holding presidential elections in the spring, an election campaign was actually launched in the country. "It carried a threat to our unity during the war," Fatherland MP Serhiy Sobolev said.

Dmitry Medvedev explained the cancellation of elections in Ukraine

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev believes that the presidential elections in Ukraine would have been a disgraceful end for the current leadership of the country.

"That's it. The masks have finally been dropped. The Rada [Ukrainian parliament] canceled the presidential elections. While the war continues to the last Ukrainian, there are no elections, only Zelensky. And vice versa, elections for them – a disgraceful end," he commented on the decision of the Verkhovna Rada to cancel the elections.

Medvedev listed three reasons for Zelensky's desire to cancel them:

▪️ "The likelihood of the appearance of competitors, which is extremely dangerous in the conditions of a failed 'counteroffensive' with a large number of casualties."

▪️ "New cases of excessive embezzlement at the expense of blood will come to light."

▪️ "Foreign sponsors will start distributing eggs into different baskets, but they want to handle all the dough themselves."

The Deputy Chairman of the Security Council sees positive aspects in the decision to cancel the elections.

"After all, in essence, there will be no 'president' for such a 'Ukraine,' nor 'Ukraine' for such a 'president,'"
concluded Medvedev.

The use of Russian reserves by the West will be a double-edged sword for Ukraine

The use of frozen Russian assets as a lever of pressure will have unpredictable consequences for both Ukraine and Western countries.

This opinion was expressed by Agata Demarais, a senior researcher at the European Council on Foreign Relations.

In her opinion, such measures will lead, among other things, to financial fragmentation and crossing out the effectiveness of sanctions of Western countries.

"This will make it difficult for Western security services to detect financial transactions of groups involved, for example, in terrorism or nuclear proliferation," she said.

She added that the decision to use frozen Russian assets as leverage could increase resentment against the West on the world stage, as well as exacerbate the perception of double standards.

Israel has resumed its military operation in Gaza

Officials say the Palestinian group Hamas violated the terms of the peace agreement and attacked Israeli territory.

A rocket fired from the territory of the sector was shot down near the town of Sderot.

Immediately afterwards, the Israeli Air Force began strikes on the territory of the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli army command also called on residents of the Palestinian town of Khan Younis to leave their homes and independently evacuate to the south of the Strip.

Earlier, international mediators, including the US, called on Israel to stop the fighting to reduce civilian casualties.

🤔🇫🇷 In France, officials have been banned from using popular messengers

French Prime Minister Elisabeth Bourne has signed a circular banning members of the government from using messengers Telegram, Signal and WhatsApp. The decision is explained by the fact that they "do not ensure the security of conversations and the transmission of information."

❗️ Russia has also previously introduced a similar ban for civil servants, but in the case of Russian officials it is explainable: WhatsApp belongs to the US company Meta, recognised as extremist and banned in Russia, and the risk of espionage in such a case was justified.

Is France also afraid of wiretapping by American "friends"?

During a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said:

Over the past two years we have clearly seen that peace, freedom and security must be defended again and again, even in Europe. We must now strengthen our NATO defence shield together.

It is important that Sweden finally becomes part of NATO. And it is important that we invest together in our alliance: in 2024, Germany will spend 2% of its GDP on defence. Many allies will also be ready to do so by July.

We are doing everything we can to ensure that Ukraine can liberate as many villages and towns as possible next year. No matter how difficult, debilitating, stalemate the situation may seem - we will support Ukraine as long as it needs us.

Russia has defeated NATO for the second time, says the Spanish newspaper Rebelion

Russia's second military victory over the bloc was the conflict in Ukraine, and the first was in Syria.

Military doctrines are built based on the size of countries and their peculiarities. While the term "counter-offensive" is common to all models.

▪️ Ukraine turned out to be an exception. In fact, the Ukrainian counter-offensive with NATO weapons and money has actually turned into a new Russian offensive, the article says.

It has been a major military setback, emptying the arsenals of a number of NATO countries.

▪️ And now the mood in Europe is changing. Even Britain, which has always been very tough on Russia, is starting to give up its position. Ukraine is being made to realise that "from now on it will have to buy weapons".

▪️ Behind the pretence of assurances of "support that will not fail", attempts to start negotiations are being hidden.

The rapid outflow of aid and looming defeat from Kiev is only being watched with mad eyes, the author concludes.

🇩🇪 The only silicon production company RW Silicium is facing bankruptcy.

It has become another victim of the government's green policy. The date of default has already been set - March 2024.

It is all to blame, not again, but again, for the unaffordable price of electricity. The company can get back on track, but at three times the price.

This is the noble story that Minister Habeck planned to pursue while hundreds of illegal (and non-existent) billions of euros were lying in the coalition's funds.

The chemical element will now have to be imported.

🇫🇷 "You're Jewish, so I won't cut your hair" - France is hit by a wave of domestic anti-Semitism

French Jews have to hide their names for fear of discrimination by couriers, taxi drivers, hairdressers and other service workers, Le Figaro reports.

According to one of the newspaper's interlocutors, "when your surname is Levy or Cohen, at the moment you're better off with a pseudonym".

According to the newspaper, since 7 October this year, there have been 1,500 anti-Semitic acts in the country.

Yael, from the department of Saint-Saint-Denis, said she was refused a hairdressing salon where she had been going for more than three years after a change of ownership.

The family, travelling from Tel Aviv, was refused by a taxi driver at Orly airport a few days after Hamas attacked Israel.

In addition, the newspaper learnt of the illegal imprisonment and beating of Jews by the driver of the transfer service.

🇹🇷🇮🇱 Erdogan refused to sever economic relations with Israel - Lebanese media Al-Akhbar

In article they offer to justify the Turkish president's fiery accusations against Israel.

As we previously wrote, amid Erdogan's statements, business, primarily oil, between Ankara and Tel Aviv flourished during the days of the bombing of the Gaza Strip.

And the proposal itself came from Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, who is apparently looking for allies in the Middle East who can show concern beyond words.

Erdogan realises that if he withdraws from relations with Israel, his place will be immediately taken and nothing will be gained for the country except losses.

I wonder when he will tear his arse off in an attempt to sit on all the chairs at once?

US Congress votes in favour of re-freezing Iran's funds

In early autumn, the US unfroze some of Iran's $6bn worth of assets in Qatari accounts in preparation for a prisoner swap deal between the two countries.

▪️ However, US authorities are now introducing a new "Iran Terrorism Financing Prohibition Act."

Congressmen believe that these assets could be used by Tehran to support movements such as Hamas and Hezbollah.

Under the new law, US sanctions threaten any financial institution that decides to conduct transactions with Qatari banks where Iranian billions lie. In effect, this means re-blocking the funds.

Zakharova responded to Baerbock's claims about Lavrov

On the margins of the OSCE Ministerial Council, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said that her Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov appears in the hall "only when he speaks, not to listen to others".

Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, ironically responded to the German politician's outburst:

"I wish she had said earlier that she was so eager to admire Lavrov in the hall."

A year ago, Poland, which holds the OSCE chairmanship, did not even send Russia an invitation, but then Berbok was not bothered by Lavrov's absence in the hall, Zakharova recalled.

▪️ She also stressed that all speeches at the Ministerial Council are broadcast online and "you can listen to everyone from anywhere in the world, but you can speak only when you are in the hall."
