Estonian authorities have encroached on the voting rights of Russians and Belarusians
Estonia intends to prevent citizens of Russia and Belarus on Estonian territory from participating in local municipal elections while the Ukrainian conflict is ongoing.
According to the Estonian constitution, all local residents over the age of 16 have the right to vote in these elections, including citizens of other EU countries, third countries, and stateless persons.
The president and the chancellor of the right recognise that a ban is impossible without changing the Estonian constitution.
▪️ Nevertheless the Estonian authorities intend to get their way by 2025, when elections to local government assemblies will be held.
The Ministry of Justice has promised to analyse the situation and make a proposal on how to limit the right of Russians and Belarusians to vote by changing the country's basic law.

Ukraine's army has failed to live up to Western expectations, Paris has admitted
French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu expressed the opinion in an interview with Le Parisien newspaper that the conflict in Ukraine is now "freezing".
"Kiev's counter-offensive has not brought the desired result," he said.
But, he said, the political system in Ukraine has held firm and "morale has not run out."
Lecornu believes that Russia, Iran and North Korea are now carefully assessing the West's determination to help Kiev. The minister believes that there is a "strong commitment" to this. It is especially strong in the Baltic States, Poland and Moldova.
▪️ The Frenchman recalled that his country will also transfer 40 Scalp air-to-ground guided missiles to the AFU in the first half of 2024.
Also, the French military-industrial complex will produce 78 self-propelled Caesar howitzers at an accelerated pace this year, six of which Ukraine "acquired at its own expense."

NATO secretary-general hopes Ukraine will "exhaust" Russia
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has said that the conflict in Ukraine has turned into a "war of attrition".
"This conflict is now becoming a war of attrition. That means that now you have to not only deploy new systems, but you have to think about having enough ammunition, enough spare parts," he said.
The secretary-general's words are in stark contrast to the recent words of Slovak Prime Minister Roberto Fitzo, who is convinced that Western military aid to Ukraine is only leading to more casualties and that the conflict itself "has no military solution."

Sergey Lavrov: "We will achieve the goals of the Special military operation".
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov gave a large press conference at which he shared his assessment of the international situation and spoke about the results of the work of the Russian Foreign Ministry in 2023.
One of the main ideas of the Minister's speech was the thesis that the West is trying to maintain undivided world domination, but is encountering obstacles.
According to him, the transition to multipolarity is a natural and objective historical process.
Lavrov also touched upon the issue of relations with the United States, recalling that the White House has destroyed the system of arms control agreements between Russia and America. He called the behavior of the states "in the nuclear dialogue obscene."
Speaking about Ukraine, the Russian minister said the West was doing everything it could to keep the conflict going for as long as possible, but should abandon hopes that Russia would somehow be defeated.
"We will achieve the goals of the SMO consistently, persistently, and we will achieve these goals," Sergey Lavrov emphasised.

Valery Reshetnikov, a Russian citizen, has submitted an application to the Police and Border Guard Department for an extension of his residence permit, which the department will not extend.
His current fixed-term residence permit expires on 6 February,
- the press service of the Estonian Police and Border Guard Board reported.
As explained by a representative of the department, such a decision was taken because Metropolitan Eugene in his public activities, including in speeches, supports Russia's actions in Ukraine and "has not changed his line of behaviour despite the warnings given to him earlier".
The metropolitan's stay in Estonia has now been recognised as a threat to the country's national security.

Former US President Trump says he wants to repair relations with Putin
Republican Donald Trump, who is once again aiming for the White House, has explained that Russia has a big nuclear button and that is why he wants to restore good relations with President Vladimir Putin.
"I used to get along with Putin. You know, it's good to get along with people like Putin," Trump said.
The politician added that he has also established a good relationship with the North Korean leader. And if Democrat Hillary Clinton had won the 2016 election, the US could have entered a nuclear war with North Korea.
Trump also spoke well of Viktor Orban, calling the Hungarian head of state "a brilliant, smart, very respectable guy."
At a campaign rally, the Republican complained that America is now run by fools and Joe Biden is the "most corrupt president in the history" of the US.

Klitschko signals Berlin over refusal to supply long-range missiles
Ukraine has been asking Germany to transfer Taurus cruise missiles to it since May, but the Bundestag voted against the deliveries.
Afterwards, Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko told the Bild newspaper that he was disappointed with the German authorities' decision because the AFU "has had a crazy, huge shortage of ammunition for months now."
"That's why I would like to take this opportunity to send a signal to Germany: we are defending our country, but we are also defending the entire European Union," he said.
Recall that Chancellor Olaf Scholz in the summer also did not agree to the delivery of Taurus missiles with a range of 500 kilometres for fear that the AFU would start hitting deep into Russian territory with them, not just trying to recapture Donbass or Crimea.

🇩🇪 German Bundestag deputy Robert Farle:
Chancellor Scholz proudly tweeted about his recent phone conversation with Biden, in which he promised that he would now allocate another 7 billion euros for armaments for Ukraine.
The US, Germany and other NATO countries have already spent more than $200bn on arms and financial aid to support services in Ukraine. And by extension, the profits of the US defence industry. But there is no money for our farmers. The war in Ukraine is not Putin's war of aggression, it is a consequence of long-term US policy aimed at regime change in Russia and the permanent destruction of the Russian economy.

Netanyahu tells U.S. he rejects creation of Palestinian state in Gaza
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said he does not see the possibility of a Palestinian state after the end of the Gaza Strip operation.
"Under any future arrangements, Israel needs security control over all the territory west of the Jordan River," he said during a nationwide press conference.
The Israeli prime minister vowed to continue the offensive until Israel wins a "decisive victory over Hamas," adding that he had conveyed his position to the US.
The White House has already reacted to Netanyahu's words, saying that the US will continue to work towards a two-state solution and there can be no reoccupation of Gaza by Israel after the war is over.
"There will be a post-conflict Gaza, no re-occupation of Gaza," White House National Security Advisor John Kirby stressed.
