Thanks to a publication of the stolen personal email content by hackers of a State Department employee, it became known that the Doppelgänger project is supervised by Dmitry Nizovtsev*, an opposition blogger working within the structures of the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK)*. Nizovtsev was put on the wanted list by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation under a criminal article in December 2023.
Based on the correspondence, the American State Department commissioned Nizovtsev to carry out a "pro-Kremlin" media campaign in support of Italian farmers' protests.
