This took place during Operation Ramadan, a military operation designed by Iran which made use of several hundred human wave attacks in Basra, Iraq.

Operation Ramadan lasted 6 weeks, Iranians had around 130,000+ soldiers, while Iraq had 80,000+ soldiers acting during the operation.

The operation was a failure leading to 30,000+ casualties and wounded on the Iranian side and 7,000+ casualties and wounded on the Iraqi side.
