Every new year, something beautiful stirs within us. A gentle hope whispers - This time, I will change. In the next twelve months, my life will be different. With sincerity, we write our resolutions - to be calmer, healthier, happier, more fulfilled. For a few weeks, our intention is strong. And then, somehow, life returns to its familiar rhythm and even the purest of our intentions fade.
Why does this happen?
Not because we lack willpower.
Not because we are weak.
It happens because we wait. We wait for situations to improve. We wait for people to change. We wait for life to become easier - and only then, we believe, will we be happy.
But here is the truth we often overlook - we cannot change the world directly. What we can change is how we respond to what the world presents to us - through our thoughts, our words, and our behavior. And when that changes, everything changes.

Many times, we begin the day feeling calm, but by evening we feel drained and disturbed. Why?
Because the energy of the world constantly influences our mind. News filled with fear, conversations heavy with criticism, environments thick with stress - all these low vibrations are in the air, and we consume them unconsciously. Gradually, peaceful thoughts get replaced by agitation, love by irritation, and happiness by heaviness.
This is why protecting our mind is not optional - it is essential. Daily meditation and the consumption of uplifting spiritual wisdom, even for just 30 minutes, are forms of inner nourishment. They strengthen the mind to continue creating peaceful, pure, and powerful thoughts, even in adversity.
The Only Resolution That Matters

Be it your spouse, child, friends or office colleagues, we want people around us to be perfect, that too according to our own definitions of perfection.
In all our relationships, we create a pre-conceived mental image of how the other person should be. We want them to be perfect according to our standards of perfection.
There are three images to people: First, you create an image of how someone should be. Then you meet that person and perceive them through your nature. That is the second image you create. Third is who they are. All these three images can be extremely different from each other.
You can never really know anyone too well because you will know them only through the filter of your perception. You simply cannot see them from another point of view. So do not judge or criticize them.
Everyone is perfect the way they are, with their own set of qualities, habits, attitudes and personality traits. Your definition of rights and wrongs cannot match with theirs. Your idea of perfection is just your benchmark, based on your qualities and perceptions.
Whenever you expect perfection from others, pause and step back. Remind yourself that you have no control over other people’s behaviours. Instead of expecting perfection from them, focus on thinking perfectly about them.

Don’t Withdraw From People Over Differences
A huge reason for relationships being fragile, is that we are becoming increasingly selective about the people we want to be with. If someone’s behavior feels uncomfortable, we are withdrawing instead of adjusting or helping them. This habit blocks our love, sharing and caring.
Not too long ago, we had a culture of joint families, with 20-25 members across three to four generations living under one roof and getting along. When differences in our natures, values and habits came up, we adapted. Today, we tend to withdraw from people, over minor differences.
Meditate and study spiritual knowledge daily to empower yourself and increase self-respect. By doing that, accepting others and adapting to different personalities becomes easy.
When someone’s behaviour is uncomfortable, understand their nature and the pain behind their act. People do not intentionally want to hurt or manipulate you. They are victims of their habits, perceptions and beliefs. Understanding is empathy.
Even if you create hurt, counsel your mind – It is their nature. What is natural for me, is right now difficult for them. I delete the past. I heal them and our relationship. This is compassion.
With empathy and compassion, you create pure thoughts for them. There will be no margin for withdrawing. You will make every effort to accept and be with them.

Don’t Search For Happiness Create It
Many of us complicate happiness, so it seems like a temporary emotion. To earn money, food, car, possessions or position, we need to do something. But we apply the same equation that something is to be done to earn happiness. So, we either wait for it, search for it, chase it, look to buy it, demand it, postpone it, or tie it to an accomplishment. So as a society we have become wealthy and successful today but not happy.
Truth is that happiness can be created right where we are. It is with us and within us. There is nothing to do, we just need to be happy, moment after moment.
Can we be happy always? It is our choice. Happiness does not mean we deny the existence of negativity that may come to us from outside sources and our relationships. At the same time let us remember that situations or people in our lives are not here to steal our happiness. They are playing their role. They do challenge us at times but at all other times it is we who hold the self back from being happy.
Happiness is not just about a mood or feeling, it equips us with the power to cross any challenge that comes in our way. It causes our mind, intellect and body to function out of calmness, wisdom and optimism. So, problems do not cause us suffering. Instead, we will learn and grow from the experiences.
Happy people make other people happy. But often we become so focused on our goals that we forget to enjoy the process of getting there.
