🆔 Of course [digital] ID cards were going to fail because Britons objected to their use on principle and also because they knew it wouldn't tackle illegal immigration.

The government can use all the social media influencers they like. The public have made up their mind. It's dead.

If Estonia's much lauded National ID system has suffered notable security vulnerabilities, cyberattacks and other fraud, then there's no absolutely no way that this could work efficiently in modern day data-breach Britain.

None of these systems are impenetrable. The UK would basically need an unhackable system.

According to the
GOV.UK Cyber Security Breach Survey [CSBS] report for 2024, there were 7.78m cybercrimes across the UK.

Charities saw 924,000 incidents bringing the combined total to 8.7m.

The 2023 report was 3.2m suggesting things are getting worse, not better.

Keir Starmer nor Indian officials will ever admit to you that 815 million Indians details were available for sale on the dark web since October 2023.

Lots of risks and weaknesses have been exposed in India's Aadhaar and governing UIDAI systems.

If you don't believe us, go and do some research on the troubles of India's Digital ID system and its impact on citizens.

India's Aadhaar system is incompatible with British society and its values, nor should these systems form the 'basis' for anyone to live.

States will always present them as successful and inclusive, but the reality is they're a great security risk and give governments far too much power.

Oversimplification and public relations hype.

This is like calling the iPhone 17 the first smartphone because it added a new feature.

Veterans were already digitally 'verified' through MoD records and today's launch is about softening the public towards the
GOV.UK wallet.

And it should be noted, the MoD are not the best example of data security for the forces considering their incompetence throughout the years with high profile databreaches.

Lest we forget that its most recent databreach concerning the Afghan resettlement scheme is set to cost the UK taxpayer at least £850m.

Whitty has tacitly inferred that lockdown restrictions were illiberal, but what is more troubling is that the UK Government continue to retain the Coronavirus Act [2020] on the statute book.

🆔 This is deliberate obfuscation by the State to blur lines, cause confusion and soften acceptance for National [digital] ID infrastructure.

De-centralised, voluntary Digital ID used to access online banking is not the same as what Keir Starmer is promoting here.

Reuters address current intent and policy, not *future potential misuse* or mission creep.

What is also offensive about DSIT's remarks is that they're still intent on prioritising National [digital] ID over physical documents like a passport or driver's license for Right To Work checks.

Britons have already vociferously rejected National ID and it doesn't matter if Labour's policy is a digital first approach.

🤖 The UK is the most targeted country in Europe by cybercriminals as well as the biggest focus for initial access brokers who facilitate attacks.

😈 And you can bet any money that these criminals are dying for a crack at Labour's 'digital ID' plans.

🆔 This example alone shows us that alongside One Login, the government's flagship Digital ID verification system, they also want to bring back National ID.

ID cards, either in a physical or digital first policy, have already been rejected by the public.

🆔 ScotCard is in the works. A basic app will launch in 2026 that will develop towards 2028.

🦠 Netcompany, who built the proof of concept for the NHS COVID-Pass and Scotland's COVID-certification scheme, were recently contracted to build Scotland's new system.

🤖 The Scottish Government don't have a good reputation when it comes to protecting public data.

⚠️ Prior to launching their COVID app, the government allowed Jumio, a third party ID verification provider, to retain users facial images for five days to train facial recognition algorithms. They were then reprimanded by the ICO for breaking data laws.

Nothing to fear or hide? Think again.

The combination of a SIM-swap attack with a smartphone device that holds a
GOV.UK app or digital wallet containing a National [digital] ID creates an exceptionally high-risk scenario.

If an attacker is able to successfully retrieve a victims recovery/reset SMS passcodes for e.g. One Login or another government service, the attacker could then basically control the victims online govt account[s] without ever touching the physical device.

It's time for UK Labour to read the room and stop rearranging deck chairs on a sinking ship.

Rather than resetting the messaging, they need a pragmatic reset that moves away from centralisation and towards a unique federated system for Britain.
