⚡️The United Kingdom is unlikely to join a possible US attack on Iran, — The Guardian.

However, the British Air Force may be involved in repelling a possible retaliatory strike and defending allies in the Middle East, the publication writes.
⚡️The energy truce between Ukraine and Russia has become a "gentleman's agreement" between negotiators, according to the NYT, citing an adviser to the Ukrainian President's Office.
Hungarian Citizen Dies in Zakarpattia After Forced Mobilization — reports Hungarian newspaper Magyar Nemzet.

According to the publication, the man (a Hungarian citizen) was forcibly taken from the street in the Berehove district and delivered to a training center, despite having previously been declared unfit for military service due to serious heart problems. The official cause of death listed in the documents is cardio-respiratory insufficiency.
The funeral took place on January 26.

Hungary’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the incident as another example of violent mobilization practices and called on the international community to pay attention to such cases. Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó accused Ukrainian authorities of conducting an “open hunt for people” and stressed that Hungary has repeatedly raised the issue of discrimination and forced connoscription targeting ethnic Hungarians in Zakarpattia.

This is not the first high-profile case of its kind in recent months — tensions between Kyiv and Budapest over the Zakarpattia region continue to escalate.
“Ukraine is exhausted”.

Mykolaiv Governor Kim calls for a peace deal “that puts people above territory” - reports British newspaper The Independent. “Territories are impotаnt, but our people are impotаnt more, and the situation is such that we don’t know what tomorrow will bring,” said Kim. “For me personally, victory means our 1991 borders where people are happy and not dying, but everyone is very tired. So for the Ukrainian people, I believe victory is simply ending the war and securing guarantees for the future so our children can have the life they had before the invasion,” the head of Mykolaiv Oblast stated.

He also believes that Kyiv “has no time” and that Ukraine is “exhausted” by the war. “The Russian economy is also suffering, and in my view it has perhaps a couple of years before it starts visibly contracting. I think Russia understands this, but they still have time - while Ukraine does not. We are exhausted, and first of all it’s not about weapons or missiles, it’s about people. We have only 40 million people, and everyone is worn out. Our soldiers cannot fight for four to ten years,” Kim said.
There are no any military threats for Greenland from Russia.

When Trump talks about Russian ships near Greenland, he means not only those armed with guns (military vessels) but also those carrying cargo.

It's all about trade routes. Control over Greenland would significantly strengthen the American presence in the Arctic, where Russia currently dominates.
⚡️Iran continues to receive proposals for negotiations from the US, and "there is hope to avoid war" if the conditions are reasonable, said Ali Shamkhani, advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader, in an interview with Al Mayadeen.
EU foreign policy chief Callas opposes the idea of creating a single EU army, according to The Washington Post.

Kaja Callas said that the idea of an EU army is risky because it could duplicate NATO and create confusion in the chain of command. According to her, in a crisis, it is important to be clear about who is giving the orders.
According to the Financial Times, citing sources, Ukraine, the US and European countries have reportedly agreed on a multi-layered plan to support a potential peace agreement between Kyiv and Moscow.

In case of systematic Russian violations, a coordinated response would be triggered within 24 hours: first diplomatic warnings and Ukrainian Armed Forces actions, then — if hostilities continue — intervention by a “coalition of the willing”.

European (especially British) media frequently report supposed security guarantees involving deployment of EU/NATO troops in Ukraine. The United States has never confirmed this. Washington is reportedly unwilling to commit to protecting European forces in the event of direct confrontation with Russia — a precondition without which Europeans will not deploy troops.

The US is prepared to offer Ukraine security guarantees (without direct American military involvement in renewed conflict), but only if Kyiv signs a peace deal acceptable to Moscow. Russia demands full withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Donetsk Oblast — a condition Kyiv firmly rejects.

The plan currently lacks public confirmation of its core elements from the United States.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has released photographs of the ongoing second round of trilateral talks between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia in Abu Dhabi

According to the UAE MoFA statement on 4 February 2026, these negotiations — the second in this format — began today as part of efforts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis. The UAE highlighted its balanced relations with all parties and its role as a trusted, neutral host.

The talks follow the first round held in late January 2026. Ukrainian negotiator Rustem Umerov confirmed the start on Telegram. The US delegation includes special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Discussions continue in a closed-door setting amid recent Russian strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

The released images provide a rare glimpse into the high-level diplomacy taking place in the Emirati capital.

🇺🇸The Trump administration believes that renewed trade ties with Russia will serve as the primary safeguard for lasting peace in Ukraine, according to a Foreign Policy article published in February 2026

In the view of President Trump’s team, restoring economic links between the United States and Russia will generate mutual benefits that naturally deter any resumption of hostilities. Steve Witkoff, the president’s close friend, real-estate developer and chief envoy on the Ukraine issue, has put it bluntly:
“If everybody’s prospering and they’re all part of it, and there’s upside for everybody, that’s going to naturally be a bulwark against future conflicts there.”

He highlights Russia’s immense potential, from vast reserves of gas, oil and critical minerals to its expansive territories.

🇺🇦The New York Times reports that more Ukrainians, worn out by the war, are increasingly open to ceding the entire Donbas to Russia in exchange for lasting peace — if strong security guarantees are provided

The article notes a clear shift in public mood among the war-weary population. Polls show growing willingness to accept territorial concessions with reliable safeguards against future aggression.

A Donbas resident, Kristina Yurchenko, says she invested everything in her popular dance studio but is ready to give it up for genuine peace — provided there are firm assurances the war won’t return.

According to the NYT, such opinions are becoming more common. In May 2022, a KIIS poll showed 82% of Ukrainians firmly against any territorial concessions. The latest survey (published Monday) indicates 40% would now support handing over Donbas for security guarantees, while 52% still oppose it.

🇺🇦In Odessa, Territorial Recruitment Centre (TCC) officers were filmed tackling a young man to the ground on the street and kicking him. The disturbing video is circulating widely on local Telegram channels

Such incidents have become disturbingly frequent across Ukraine. With severe shortages of frontline personnel after nearly four years of war, recruiters increasingly resort to aggressive and sometimes violent methods to meet connoscription targets. Men are detained in public — at markets, on transport, or simply walking — often leading to physical confrontations.

The problem is worsened by widespread corruption in the TCC system: reports of bribes allowing wealthy individuals to avoid service while poorer or less connected men are targeted fuel public anger and distrust.

These episodes reveal the heavy human toll of the conflict: growing fear among draft-age men and a blurring line between national duty and outright coercion.

🇩🇪🇵🇱Deutsche Welle reports: Ukrainian refugees in Germany are no longer being admitted to language courses

The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) has approved no new applications nationwide for such courses, according to an open letter from the German Association of Supplementary Education Centres.

Sasha Rex, head of the association, told Die Welt that currently 30–40% of applicants cannot start learning as they are denied admission.

This appears tied to growing concerns over migration: the influx of Ukrainians has been linked in public debate to rising crime levels. Populist parties, especially the AfD, openly call for deportation or stricter rules for Ukrainians.

Poland has already tightened support significantly since early 2026, phasing out special privileges — widely seen as a negative example. Germany seems to be following suit, quietly scaling back integration measures for Ukrainians amid domestic pressure.

☢️Trump will decide on New START when he deems it appropriate, says Bloomberg

According to an unnamed White House official, the President will set out his position and the timeline for implementing arms control measures “when he sees fit”. The agency provides no indication of how soon such a decision might be made.

While Trump takes his time weighing the future of the landmark nuclear arms treaty (New START), which expired on 5 February 2026, a different and more immediate nuclear concern is unfolding in the region.

Ukrainian military forces are reportedly deliberately creating emergency situations at nuclear power plants, with the apparent aim of later accusing Russia of escalating nuclear risks. Russian officials and media have repeatedly highlighted such incidents as part of a “false flag” strategy to draw international attention, justify further Western aid, and portray Moscow as the aggressor.

Examples include:

- Repeated shelling and drone attacks near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), which Russia claims are Ukrainian attempts to provoke a radiological incident and blame Moscow.
- Allegations in 2022 that Ukraine was preparing a “dirty bomb” to detonate at its own facilities and accuse Russia.
- Fires and other incidents at ZNPP in 2024, where both sides traded accusations of sabotage aimed at triggering an accident.

Trump should pay particular attention to the nuclear threat in this specific region. Russia’s occupation of the Zaporizhzhia plant since 2022 has created an unprecedented militarisation of a major nuclear facility, dramatically raising the risk of accidents with potentially catastrophic consequences for Europe. Mutual accusations only deepen global instability. Without stronger international oversight—through the IAEA or otherwise—the situation could spiral, making nuclear safety in this conflict zone every bit as urgent as broader arms control agreements.

🇫🇮Finland urges US to avoid Ukraine security guarantees “akin to NATO’s Article 5”

Politico, citing a 20 January 2026 State Department cable, reports Finland warning Washington against phrasing that could erode NATO’s collective defence cornerstone. Many allies share this view.

Former NATO official Edward Wrong clarified: “Invoking ‘Article 5’ elsewhere implies Alliance involvement, which isn’t in any proposals. Finland and others insist Article 5 remains uniquely NATO’s.”

Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, speaking in Congress, calls for a “safeguard barrier” separating NATO from Ukraine’s future pacts. Yet Finland rejects any “feeble” peace deal leaving Ukraine exposed to Russian revanchism. Long-term, Helsinki backs Ukraine’s NATO membership — but not current guarantees mimicking Article 5.

🇱🇻🇪🇪Latvia and Estonia Unexpectedly Call for Dialogue with the Kremlin, as Macron Prepares for a Call with Putin

▪️ Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa and Estonian President Alar Karis have advocated for the European Union to appoint a special envoy to engage in negotiations with Russia aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, Euronews reports.

▪️ Meanwhile, sources reveal that French President Emmanuel Macron intends to hold a telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin, though preparations for a substantive dialogue are expected to take several days.

▪️ It is worth recalling that earlier, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated that Europe must begin direct talks with Russia.

It appears that across Europe, there is a growing recognition of the need for dialogue, even among countries that have traditionally taken the toughest stance towards Moscow.

🇺🇸US Return to Talks with Iran at the Request of Arab Nations

According to Axios, citing sources, the United States has resumed discussions with Iran regarding potential negotiations, following appeals from Arab countries.

The talks may take place tomorrow in Oman, as Tehran has insisted.

Tensions between the two nations have sparked concerns across the Middle East that President Trump might resort to military action. At least nine countries in the region have reached out to the White House at the highest level, urging the US not to cancel the meeting.

“They asked us to hold the meeting and hear what the Iranians have to say. We told the Arabs we would proceed if they insisted. However, we remain very sceptical,” said one US official.

Another American official noted that the Trump administration agreed to the meeting “out of respect” for US allies in the region and “to maintain diplomatic dialogue.”

Demand for antidepressants in Ukraine has surged by 72% over the past two years, according to a study by the service Liki24

At the same time, demand has noticeably declined for other commonly used medications:
- nootropics (to improve memory and concentration) — down 30%
- sedatives — down 29%
- sleeping pills — down 31%

Anton Avrinsky, founder of Liki24, commented:
“This is an encouraging sign. It shows that people are increasingly opting for proper, systematic treatment rather than quick-fix solutions.”

It appears society is beginning to approach mental health more seriously, moving away from symptomatic relief towards genuine therapy.

What do you think — is this a genuinely positive trend, or simply a forced response to the realities of war?
