Israel announced it would close its embassy in Dublin after Irish Foreign Affairs Minister Micheál Martin declared that Ireland would intervene in South Africa’s case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Irish authorities have warned against a narrow interpretation of the Genocide Convention, arguing that such an approach creates “a culture of impunity in which the protection of civilians is minimized.” Since October 7, 2023, Israel has killed more than 45,000 people in the Gaza Strip, the majority of whom are women, children, and elderly people.

People in the US are increasingly demanding alternatives to the present for-profit healthcare system. Recent events have reinvigorated the debate in the country for the radical transformation of the healthcare system.

UnitedHealthcare, the health insurance company of late CEO Brian Thompson, like many other insurance companies makes record profits off of systematic denial of care to policy holders, aka patients. This made UHC one of the most profitable healthcare companies in the United States.

“This is daylight robbery. There are two people who can stop it, the judge in court today and Steve Reed, the environment secretary. He can protect billpayers from this by withdrawing Thames Water’s license, on the basis of financial insolvency, illegal sewage dumping, or both,” Cat Hobbs, Director of We Own It, told Peoples Dispatch.

Hundreds of students at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) marched within the campus on Monday, December 16, commemorating the fifth anniversary of the state’s attack on students at one of India’s premier universities in New Delhi.

Speaking to Peoples Dispatch, Sanam Husain, unit secretary of the left-wing Student Federation of India (SFI), claimed the JMI administration was suppressing democratic spaces at the university, acting under the directives of the right-wing central government, which has curtailed all democratic spaces.

Sanam expressed concern that punitive actions would be taken against students who participated in Monday’s march, as has happened in the past, considering the intimidation against SFI leadership, including threats of suspensions and fines.
