One year after Israeli forces abducted Dr. Ahmed Muhanna, the director of Al-Awda Hospital in northern Gaza, the lack of information about his status exemplifies a worsening crisis for health workers in Palestine.

In the same period that Dr. Muhanna’s colleagues marked 365 days without answers, Israeli forces killed a nurse and Dr. Saeed Judeh, northern Gaza’s last orthopedic specialist, during attacks in the proximity of Kamal Adwan Hospital.

Hundreds of students at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) marched within the campus on Monday, December 16, commemorating the fifth anniversary of the state’s attack on students at one of India’s premier universities in New Delhi.

Speaking to Peoples Dispatch, Sanam Husain, unit secretary of the left-wing Student Federation of India (SFI), claimed the JMI administration was suppressing democratic spaces at the university, acting under the directives of the right-wing central government, which has curtailed all democratic spaces.

Sanam expressed concern that punitive actions would be taken against students who participated in Monday’s march, as has happened in the past, considering the intimidation against SFI leadership, including threats of suspensions and fines.

🇸🇩 December 19 marked 5 years since the beginning of Sudan's December Revolution.

5 years ago, the brave people of Sudan rose up against the increased cost of bread, and stayed on the streets for months demanding an end to the dictatorial rule of Omar al-Bashir and a true democratization process. However, despite the demands for a democratic, civilian run government, the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces took control and their transitional, power-sharing government collapsed in April 2023. Ever since, Sudan has been engulfed in a bloody civil war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and RSF.

Last year, we spoke with Eugene Puryear of BreakThrough News to discuss the significance of the December Revolution and the continued struggle of the Sudanese people for democracy.

#PeoplesHistory | Today, we remember Thomas Sankara. Today, he would've turned 75.

Sankara was the President of Burkina Faso from 1983 to 1987 and a revolutionary Marxist pan-Africanist. His foreign and economic policies were centered on anti-imperialism, rejecting foreign aid and policies of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, and nationalizing all land and mineral wealth.

Sankara, famously known as Africa’s Che, introduced various progressive policies, including ones that advanced the empowerment and status of women, as well as massive education, and self-reliance programs to address the structural underdevelopment of the Burkinabé people under colonialism and neocolonial leaders.

On October 15, 1987, the Burkinabé revolutionary Sankara was brutally assassinated in Ouagadougou at the age of 37 with the help of imperialist Western powers.
