🇻🇪 Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has been sworn in for the 2025-2031 presidential term.

The Venezuelan far-right opposition, supported by the United States and its allies, has been trying to prevent Maduro's inauguration. In a show of its imperialist arrogance, the US announced a $25 million reward for the arrest of Maduro.

Maduro has sworn to keep building socialism in Venezuela, deepening the Bolivarian Revolution, and continue the legacy of Commander Hugo Chavez Frias.

A five-alarm fire has displaced over 200 in the Bronx, nearly three years to the date from the Twin Parks fires of 2022, a fire which killed 17 tenants after ripping through a neglected building with inadequate fire safety and lack of proper heating. The fire originated from a faulty space heater, a solution which many residents had been resorting to in order to stay warm in the freezing cold temperatures.

Many residents suspect that this most recent fire could be related to space heater use due to the lack of heat, and ongoing problem for years—shedding light on how New York landlords are extracting profit by maximizing the suffering of their tenants, and how New York City is doing little to stop it.

From the exploitation of prison labor to the failures of insurance companies, the Los Angeles wildfires underscore the toll of capitalism on vulnerable communities.

The fires have drawn attention to the exploitation of incarcerated workers, who work some of the most hazardous jobs for paltry wages. California relies on the forced labor of its massive population of prisoners—disproportionately Black and Latino—to control its wildfires.

The disaster in LA has also demonstrated that the insurance industry is incapable of providing the structures necessary to prepare for an increasingly disaster-prone reality.

The victims of the LA fires, after being faced with the destruction of their property and the utter devastation of their lives, are now contending with being completely abandoned by the insurance companies that are supposed to cover damages and losses in this exact scenario.

Elon Musk seems to be running a campaign of support for far-right political parties in Europe, extending his influence beyond electoral processes and regional discussions in the United States and Latin America.

While the AfD has attempted to publicly rebrand itself as a “conservative libertarian” party, its program firmly positions it on the extreme right of the political spectrum.

Álvaro Uribe, former Colombian president, calls for military invasion of Venezuela. President Maduro challenges him to lead the war himself.

“What we want, what we advocate, is an international military intervention to end the dictatorship,” said the former Colombian president before a cheering crowd. In his speech, he took the opportunity to express his support for González Urrutia and María Corina Machado, who, according to Uribe, are “the universal champions of democracy”.

‼️🇵🇸CEASEFIRE AND CAPTIVES-FOR-PRISONERS SWAP DEAL REACHED BETWEEN ISRAEL AND HAMAS

After 15 months of genocide, the Qatari Prime Minister confirmed in a press conference that a ceasefire deal has finally been reached. The ceasefire will take effect this Sunday, January 19, and the deal will put an end to Israel’s non-stop genocidal attacks on the Palestinian people in Gaza. During the last 15 months, at least 47,000 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks - the real number is likely much higher as there are still tens of thousands of people missing under the rubble.

The deal consists of three phases and each phase will have different stipulations regarding the halt in attacks, the release of Israeli captives for Palestinian prisoners, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from certain regions and corridors, an increase in humanitarian aid trucks entering the strip, and the eventual re-opening of border crossings. The guarantors of the agreement are Qatar, Egypt, and the United States.

The Israeli cabinet and government will meet tomorrow to vote on the agreement.

Celebrations erupted across Gaza as news of the deal broke.
