MST WOMEN OCCUPY HIGHWAY FOR THE RIGHT TO GROW FOOD 🥕👊🏽

🇧🇷Yesterday, March 13, as part of a national day of action, more than 250 women from rural communities in the states of Maranhão, Pará and Tocantins occupied a stretch of the BR-010 highway, the access road to one of agribusiness giant Suzano's largest pulp and paper mills in the country and a strategic region for agribusiness to denounce the advance of eucalyptus crop, violence against rural workers, aerial spraying of pesticides and soil and water contamination.

According to the MST, the company has been threatening rural workers and prohibiting the planting of food on agrarian reform territories, with practices of intimidation, threats of legal prosecution, the use of physical violence, and the dumping of poison on plantations.

"They come into our shacks with the support of private security guards, take our harvest, forbid us to plant and threaten to dump poison with drones. We could plant all this land here, but now it's all eucalyptus,” says one of the farmers from the south of Maranhão.

The leadership of the MST, at the National Day of Women's Struggles across the country, points to the history of legal complaints against Suzano and calls the attention of regional and federal bodies.

"Society has noticed the rise in food prices, but we need to question the reasons for this increase. Among them are the lack of areas to grow food and also the poisoning of our territories, our soil and our water. Suzano is one of these companies that has had an impact on family farming, with the advance of eucalyptus on what used to be productive land and the spraying of pesticides,” explains Divina Lopes, from the MST leadership in Maranhão.

#PeoplesHistory | Today marks the death anniversary of Karl Marx, the revolutionary German philosopher whose analysis of capitalism laid the foundations for the modern socialist movement. 🚩

Marx’s scientific theory of historical dialectical materialism provided a powerful framework to understand the evolution of human societies. His numerous essays, books, and newspaper articles exposed the fundamental nature of capitalism as a system that inevitably leads to the exploitation of the working class. 📚⚒️

By lifting the veil on the material conditions and social relations underpinning capitalist society, as well as the deep contradictions it generates, Marx demonstrated the historical necessity of overthrowing bourgeois rule to achieve true emancipation. His clarion call—“Workers of the world, unite!”—still resonates today as a rallying cry for justice and equality.

#PeoplesHistory | Today we honor the memory of US activist Rachel Corrie, who was killed by Israeli Occupation Forces in 2003.

In 2003, during the Second Intifada, Corrie was demonstrating against Israeli Occupation Forces' destruction of homes in Rafah. While protesting the demolition of local homes, she was struck and killed by an Israeli soldier operating a Caterpillar D9R armored bulldozer. The soldier responsible was never brought to justice despite the efforts of Corrie's family and human rights organizations.

🚨 In a shocking move, the Trump administration defied a federal court order and deported 250 Venezuelan migrants to El Salvador, claiming national security concerns. Critics argue this marks a dangerous escalation in his anti-immigrant crackdown, fueled by unfounded claims and political rhetoric.
📌Key points:
- Trump invoked the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to justify the deportations.
- No evidence has been provided to support claims that the migrants are gang members.
- Activists in Colorado condemn the move as part of a "racist narrative" targeting immigrant communities.
- @pslnational stated: “This is a massive escalation in Trump’s war on immigrants. Only the people can stop this by taking to the streets and showing our opposition.”

🇿🇦 A MAJOR VICTORY FOR JUSTICE! #PeoplesVictory

Abahlali baseMjondolo, South Africa’s shack dwellers’ movement, has won a landmark court case blocking the eviction of nearly 1,000 families in Ballito, KwaZulu-Natal.

This ruling is a powerful stand against systemic oppression and neo-apartheid.
💡 Key points:
- The court dismissed the eviction application due to legal flaws and lack of urgency.
- The case exposed racist and classist attempts to displace poor Black families.
- Abahlali baseMjondolo continues to fight for land, dignity, and basic services

“This case is because white racists do not want people to live in affluent areas next to them. Our people are called human waste, people who are coming to pollute the area...For us, this is a victory, and we are going back to the drawing table to continue with our struggle for land.”
Thapelo, the Secretary-General of Abahlali baseMjondolo, condemned the racial undertones of the eviction attempt.
