#PeoplesHistory | Today we honor José Carlos Mariátegui—Latin America’s revolutionary Marxist thinker who championed an Indigenous-rooted socialism.
A Peruvian journalist, philosopher, and activist, Mariátegui overcame severe disabilities and a tragically short life (dying at 35) to redefine Peru’s struggle against colonialism and for social, political, and economic emancipation through Marxism. His seminal work, "Seven Interpretive Essays on Peruvian Reality," remains a cornerstone of anti-colonial socialist thought.
