The Communist Party of India (Marxist) expressed its firm rejection of the country’s free trade agreement with the European Union (EU). The party called the deal a “wholesale surrender of India’s economic interest to the EU.”

Both the EU and India see the deal as a significant relief in the context of economic pressure from the Donald Trump administration in the US, in the form of the arbitrary use of tariff and trade wars.

The struggle of the Cuban people to keep their lights on is a fundamental struggle for the right of all peoples to determine their destiny, free from the coercion of an empire that confuses dominance with security and mistakes cruelty for strength. As in the past, Cubans will collectively rise to the challenge in order to not only survive, but overcome the blockade.

News that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will be among United States institutions accompanying Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the Winter Olympic Games in Italy in February has sparked indignation across the region.

Since the information was first published, the Left in the European Parliament has called for an EU-wide travel ban, while Milan’s local authorities stated that the US agency is “a militia that kills” and therefore not welcome in the city.

“The mass response we are seeing in the US, with the general strike in Minneapolis and demonstrations across the country, signals the deep crisis the ruling class is facing there, just as it is in Europe,” wrote Marta Collot of Potere al Popolo on social media.

“This decisive measure follows a series of unacceptable violations of diplomatic norms and practice which pose a direct challenge to South Africa’s sovereignty,” said a media statement by the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO).

“These violations include the repeated use of official Israeli social media platforms to launch insulting attacks against His Excellency President Cyril Ramaphosa, and a deliberate failure to inform DIRCO of purported visits by senior Israeli officials.”

For people in the United States, understanding this situation requires a break with their own government’s extreme violence towards Cuba. The fuel blockade is not a “policy disagreement.” It is an act of economic terrorism designed to foment hunger, suffering, and instability until a sovereign government abdicates. Cuba’s steadfastness, against all odds, remains a powerful testament to the fact that even the most powerful empire cannot extinguish the desire for dignity and self-determination.

As Thailand goes to the polls, three visions compete: one which experiments in strange new populist economics, one which critiques from the seminar room, and one paying to keep the countryside quiet. In the Thai election, scheduled for February 8, we can see the Global South’s political laboratory in microcosm.

🇻🇪Today marks a month since the United States carried out an illegal, unilateral military operation against Venezuela and kidnapped Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, a member of the Venezuelan National Assembly.

With the attack against Venezuela, the US sought to send a message to the entire Global South and completely do away with any semblance of "rules-based order". Trump himself declared: "American dominance in the Western Hemisphere will never be questioned again."
