Several thoughts on the outcome of the Coalition of the Willing meeting in Paris yesterday.
1. Europe sees Ukraine as a vital part of European security. Europe seems ready to finance, arm and train a 800,000 Ukrainian army that will essentially become the main security force and protection against Russia in Europe.
2. The issue of security guarantees - until they are ironclad and ratified by parliaments, they remain intentions, not commitments.
3. So far, Russia shows no intention of being ready for peace. Putin will play for time, pretending to be interested in negotiations but will show no real inclination for a ceasefire and peace.
4. We should closely watch the situation in Venezuela and Iran. Should the US take action in Iran as well, Russia's oil income will shrink even further, but in a three-year perspective. This will both strengthen the US positions in future negotiations with China (and the war in Ukraine is part of those negotiations), and should lead to Putin being more realistic about realities on the ground.

These sourcing pathways appear to feed directly into the domestic availability of Starlink systems in Russia. Starlink terminals remain in use by Russian forces in Ukraine and are widely available for both military and civilian purposes through major online marketplaces, including Wildberries and Ozon.
Some retailers explicitly market Starlink systems for military use, in some cases offering camouflage guidance for terminals following purchase.
Starlink panels have also been found in Russian drones.

In December 2025, in the Zaporizhzhia direction, a sabotage and reconnaissance group from the Bratstvo unit - part of the Tymur Special Unit of Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence - carried out a deep raid behind Russian lines near the Kakhovka Reservoir.
During the combat operation, the Warriors eliminated two Russian occupiers, wounded two others, and captured another two.
Afterward, Bratstvo fighters conducted a complex and lengthy escort of the prisoners - covering a distance of approximately 27 kilometers - and brought them to Ukrainian-controlled territory.
The captured Russian soldiers provided valuable intelligence on the locations of Russian officers, artillery positions, drone operators, troop concentrations, equipment, and ammunition depots.

An analysis of the situation in Iran by Navid Mohebbi, a Washington-based Iran analyst and democracy advocate:
▪️ By all measures, Day 10 has been the largest and most widespread day of Iran’s new uprising.
▪️ Protests swept across all of Tehran’s bazaars - not only the Grand Bazaar, but many others as well. Bazaar strikes also took place in at least four other cities. In a recent speech, Khamenei tried to portray bazaar merchants as loyal because of their role in the 1979 revolution. Their current defiance is therefore a major blow to him. In Tehran, merchants did not merely strike - they left the bazaars and moved into the main streets.
▪️ Unlike recent days, when protests were largely confined to nighttime, demonstrations have returned to daytime hours, marking a significant shift and escalation.
▪️ Intense protests were reported in Tehran, several cities in Ilam Province, Shahr-e Kord, multiple cities in Khorasan Province, Sari, and many others. A notable feature has been larger and more tightly packed crowds.
▪️ The regime has sharply increased its use of shotguns firing pellet ammunition. A second attack on a hospital was reported - this time in Tehran, following Ilam - prompting condemnation from human rights organizations. Hospitals are becoming targets for the arrest of wounded protesters.
▪️ As of now, approximately 25-35 people have been killed. State media claim that security forces are now prioritizing the arrest of so-called "leaders" and carrying out mass detentions to suppress the protests.
