Hi, I know this runs counter to a lot of the current leftist rhetoric, but remember that a belief in redemption is ideologically crucial. If you believe a better world is possible, you have to believe that it's not that people are bad, but that there's some conditioning force that causes human cruelty and, by extension, that there is a means to overcome that force. I'm not trying to argue that you have to forgive the people who hurt you or that it isn't a poor use of time to try to reform some people, but I am arguing that you have to give people the room to learn and grow out of the selfish, violent and privileged mindsets that they were raised in.
