Having worked a lot with the public lately, I have noticed a pattern that makes me uncomfortable and uneasy.
Richer people, people who give you work, or people you work for in a broader sense, which includes also clients and stuff, don't care about how you work. They just care about how much you work.
Whether it's your boss or your client you have to look busy. If there's nothing to do find it, or do stuff that makes you look busy.
It's what they are looking for. A constant, relentless stream of useless small stuff spread through various hours. It just doesn't look good if you are still. People want to have full control and ownership over your time and energies. If you take even a breath the feeling is that you're stealing from work.
