The 179 people who died were aged between three and 78, although most were in their 40s, 50s and 60s. Five were children under the age of 10. Two Thai nationals were among the dead and the rest were South Korean.

One Year On... The Pain Remains Unfaded. December 29, 2024—a day etched in tragedy. Jeju Air Flight 2216, a Boeing 737-800 from Bangkok to Muan, faced a bird strike on approach. Both engines ingested migratory ducks, crippling the right one. The crew issued a Mayday, went around, but on the second attempt, the gear failed to deploy. The belly landing overrun led to a catastrophic collision with the ILS berm, claiming 179 lives—175 passengers and 4 crew. Only two rear cabin crew survived the detached tail section. As a professional pilot with thousands of hours in the skies, I know the razor-thin margins we navigate daily. This wasn't just a crash; it was a chain of events—bird hazards at Muan, non-frangible structures, and disputed engine shutdown errors—that demand accountability. We've lost families, dreamers, and futures. Their stories remind us: aviation safety isn't optional; it's sacred.Rest in peace. Strength to the families. Let's honor them by pushing for bird radars, frangible barriers, and flawless crew training. Never forget. Fly safe. 🕊️🙏
