I heard an interesting argument the other day: US home values have not gotten more expensive per square foot after adjusted for income change. Let's run the numbers.

Comparison of 1980 vs 2023:

1) Median Household Income:
~$18,000 vs ~$80,000

2) Median Home Price:
~$65,000 vs ~$425,000

3) Median Square Footage:
~1,740 vs ~2,286

Price / Income Ratio: 3.61 vs 5.31.
2023 / 1980 Ratio: 5.31 / 3.61 = 1.47.
Sq. Ft. Delta Ratio: 2,286 / 1,740 = 1.31.

From this analysis, I think it's fair to say that 66% of the median price increase is due to larger median home size. I would speculate the remainder to be due to relaxed lending standards vs the 1980s, plus the huge but largely unknown impact of immigration.

Gen Z needs to realize buying the house their parents currently own is not a fair idea and is not what their parents did. My parents, for instance, lived in trailer park for much of their 20s and only later upgraded to a small suburban house, then a larger one.

If all Protestants were aggregated into a single institution, it would be no further right - and perhaps further left - than the Roman Catholic Church.

Many theology nerds of various stripes on both sides are more focused on winning theology debates with "facts and logic" than with opposing the demographic destruction of their churches.

In the Siege of Vienna in 1683, the Ottomans were repelled by a Catholic king leading a Protestant and Catholic allied army to defend a Catholic country.

If your theology would prevent you serving in this honorable battle, you need to reasses your theology.

Why Do Men Hate Going to Church?

This was the noscript of a book by mainline Presbyterian David Murrow. In it, he observes that basically all branches of Western Christianity have female majority attendance, some in a 60-40 ratio, some as extreme as 90-10.

He submits many theories on why, and most have merit. Indeed, I highly recommend his book. However, I would submit the most basic reason:

Men are increasingly opting out of every facet of society (work, school, marriage, friendships, etc.); church is merely the most optional of the above.

The only social area still popular with men is male-only video games and chatrooms (and I think the male-only aspect is the most appealing factor).

The Ascension of Our Lord (Acts 1:9-11)

And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

What Does the Rainbow Mean in the Bible?

It was a promise before it was a perversion. After punishing the world for its gross sin, and essentially recreating the world afresh,

God said, “This is the sign of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. (Gen. 9:12-13).

The New Bible Commentary Revised observes:

My bow translates qeset, the usual meaning of which is the weapon. Thus, the recurring rainbow imposed on the retreating storm by the shining again of the sun is God's battle bow laid aside, a token of grace staying the lighting shafts of wrath.

There is also a self-malediction involved: the bow is stretched towards the heavens, towards God himself and away from us. God swears by His own name and ultimately bears the curse for us. As one medieval poem put it:

My bow between you and me
in the firmament shall be,
by true tokening that you may see
that such vengeance shall cease....

The string is turned towards you
and towards me is bent the bow,
that such weather shall never show
and this I promise thee.

It should come as no surprise that the token of God's promise to limit his wrath is used as a way to further provoke it. But make no mistake; God will exact judgement as they store up wrath for the final day.

How should we as Christians view the rainbow? We should thank God for every appearance we see, and remember his faithfulness. St. Peter tells us baptism is the antitype of Noah's salvation through the flood, so we should also remember our baptism and our new washed life in Christ.

Baptists and non-denoms: ‘We shouldn’t separate over minor issues.’

Me: Okay, you consider Baptism minor — I don’t. Therefore, you have to yield. See you Sunday. Divine Service starts at 09:00. Be on time and wear a suit.

Known as the Apostle to the Germans, Benedictine monk Boniface (A.D. 675 - 5 June 754) was martyred today 1271 years ago.

As he destroyed pagan idols of his day, let us endeavor destroy the pagan idols of our day. I.e. Mammon, equality, atheistic pride, hedonism, technological progress, individualism, etc.

A Blessed Pentecost Sunday to all!

And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: and also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. -- Joel ch. 2

If Trump fails to crack down on the LA riots despite 80%+ public support, the mistake is unforgivable and we should write him off.

I'm happy to observe he seems to have at least partially learned from the 2020 riots -- sending in the national guard and cucking Newsom was a good stunt. Now it's time to follow up quickly and decisively.

Pentecost Poast 1: The Sin of Babel

Frequently, the sin is assumed to be building a tower to heaven. And we may infer this was sinful. But what was the root sin? Why did they want to build a city and tower?

And they said, "Come, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth."

The tower was designed to keep man as one people, and this was the sin of Babel. The modern equivalents of this sin should be more than obvious to all.

Consider also the narrative structure: We have just read about God intervening to cut down man's iniquity through the flood. After reading about Noah's descendants, we now see God doing something similar.

Historically, many Christian thinkers have held Shem, Ham, and Japheth to be the sources of the races, and to be assigned to a continent or area to live. The narrative focus of man again rebelling against God by refusing to live separately lends credence to the notion that God intended Noah's descendants to live separately. The zoom into Abraham thereafter shows God has now dampened the depravity and will move towards redeeming us.

The Very Lutheran Project
Wow, uh, literally nothing this individual just said about me is true (except the good guy part, I hope). That's OK though, I forgive him 🥰
One thing the Mahler / Woe duo need to improve on is not sounding like arrogant redditors whose firmware malfunctioned and turned them right wing. Would really help their branding.

Super Lutheran is doing great work, and so is Stone Choir. This doesn't need to be a johnson measuring contest, seriously folks.

Penetcost Poast 2: Reversal of Babel?

It's common to hear that Pentecost was a reversal of Babel -- instead of God dispersing the nations and confusing their language, He brought them together and they all heard God's word together.

However, the better way to think of Pentecost is a redemption of Babel, not a reversal. When Adam brought death into the world, God's solution wasn't a cosmic Cntrl+Z; it was to use the very fact of death to redeem the world.

By the same token, when the sin of Babel brought langauages and permanent separation of nations, God didn't erase this separation but rather sent His word into each nation and people.

The culmination seen in Revelation 5 is a congregation "of every nation, tribe, and tongue," showing clearly these seperations extend into eternity, yet in no way prevent us from peace and communal worship.
