At the baptist church I go to, there's an interesting little tradition which perfectly illustrates the destructive parasitism of pietism. After each baptism, the pastor will lead the congregation in singing the Doxology. But we never sing it as a part of ordinary Lord's Day worship; we just stick to a consistent repertoire of about two dozen contemporary songs and emotion-laden 19th century American hymns (some of which were authored by women). The congregants all learned the Doxology from some more traditional church or their family. This pietistic pastor does none of the work of maintaining these traditions and godly practices and yet reaps a benefit of the labor of others. This principle applies to numerous other situations: They don't catechize; they appropriate the work of the hard-nosed Presbyterians. They don't encourage hard work, financial prudence, and career success, but yet they are happy to take the offerings, the fruit of these habits. They minimize the importance of cultural and political influence, yet reap the benefits of freedom their ancestors gained for them. Pietism is nothing more than feminized and Americanized Christianity. It is overly emotional and fat and lazy. It doesn't want to do any of the unpleasant or challenging tasks required to break the gates of Hades and take dominion over the world. It would rather sign a peace treaty and go back to its cocoon of comfort and feely-good feelings. Pietism is as gay and cringe as EOs and RCs. Protbros, it's time to eliminate these fags from our ranks. I'm talking relentless trolling and ceaseless hazing. Let's go.
